During his career in Psychotherapy/Counseling/Hypnotherapy, which spans more than 24 years, Dr. Dovelos has worked in various Psychiatric Hospitals and Community Health Centers in the Central Sydney (Australia) Health Service, and also in private clinics as well as in private practice both in Sydney, Australia and Athens, Greece. Dr. Dovelos has also worked in the fields of Rehabilitation and Pain Management in connection to work accidents, and offered his services frequently as an expert witness in relation to Workers' Compensation Cases.

While working for the Public Health System in Sydney, Dr. Dovelos, in addition to providing individual and group psychotherapy and counseling services, organized and conducted a number of Government-funded cross-cultural research projects in the areas of Drugs and Alcohol, Mental Illness, HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), Services for the Aged, etc. He also participated in the development and delivery of Health Education Programs in the above areas, specially designed for people from Non-English-Speaking-Backgrounds.

Dr. Dovelos also headed a team of Cross-Cultural Mental Health Specialists in designing, developing, and pilot-testing special group therapy programs for target populations with specific needs. The results of the above research projects as well as education and therapy programs have been published over the years in a number of specialized publications.

Dr. Dovelos has also developed a number of Psychotherapy/Hypnotherapy treatment approaches, including "Combined Cognitive Hypnotherapy", published by Bell and Howel (1994), and "A Model Subconscious Mind Therapy Protocol" (2002) published electronically at Athenaeum University 's Research Library. Other publications by Dr. Dovelos include "A Study of the Nature, Etiology and Treatment of Social Phobia", "A Study of Hypnosis and the Nervous System", "Guided Affective Imagery or Symboldrama", "Stress and Anxiety", "The Psychology of Overweight and Slimming Therapy", "Psychosomatic Illness and Its Treatment", "Sexual Dysfunctions and Their Treatment", "Age Regression: Theory and Practice", "Pain and Healing", "Specific Imagery Techniques for People Affected by Cancer", currently published electronically at Athenaeum University's Research Library http://www.unicollege-edu.net/library.html. 

Major research interests consist of the structure and function of human personality, the study of consciousness, hypnosis and psychotherapy/hypnotherapy, Energy Psychology and the application of energy therapy modalities in psychotherapy. Dr. Dovelos has been for many years actively involved in research and experimentation in the above areas.

Dr Dovelos is currently a faculty member and Psychology professor at Breyer State University , Chief Provost and Dean of Behavioral Sciences at Athenaeum University International, Instructor of Psychotherapy/Hypnotherapy at Athenaeum Academy, and a member of the Advisory Council of Ansted University.  He is also in private practice as a Mental Health/Family Counselor and Psychotherapist in Athens, Greece.  

Dr. Dovelos has translated from English into Greek a number of published books in Psychology and Psychotherapy. Dr. Dovelos's new Greek language books, "The Genesis and Development of Consciousness" and “Contemporary Trends in Clinical Hypnotherapy” are scheduled for publication in the next few months.
