| MAGIC AND HOW IT WORKS Magic of the Guild Sorcerers Shadowmancers/Shadowmancy Sorcerers create magic the way a poet creats words and stories, inborn natral talent and skill, honed by practice. They have no books, no mentors, no theries---just raw power that they can direct at will. Some Sorcerers claim they have the blood of dragons flowing through there vains. It may even be true--it is common knowledge that certian breeds of Dragon can take humanoid form and have humainoid mates, and so it is diffecult to prove that a given sorcerer does not have a dragon ancester.Sorcerers often even have striking good looks, usually with a pintch of the exotic that hints at an unusual haritage. Even so, the claim that sorcerers are partialy draconic is either a unsubstantiated boast on the part of certian sorcerers or the envious ramblings on the part of those who lack the sorcerer's gifted talents. The common sorcerer adventures in order to improve his/her abilitys and skills. Only by testing his/her limitscan he/she expand them. A sorcerer's power is inborn, and a part of his/her soul. Developing ones natral powers and talents is a quest in itself for many sorcerers, no matter how they wished to use their powers. Some good sorcerers are driven with a desire to prove themselves. Being marked by their powers and being diffrent, they desire a place in societyand to prove themselves to others. Evil sorcerers on the other hand, also see themselves apart from others---apart and above, they adventure to gain power and skill over others they look down on. Sorcerers cast spells through inate natral powers then through carful training and skills. Their magic is intuitve rather then logical. They know fewer spells then the typical wizard and aquire pwerful spells more slowly then wizards do,but they can cast spells more often and have no need to study selectand prepare them ahead of time. Nor do sorcerers specialize in certain schools of magic(arcane arts) the way the wizard may. Since sorcerers gain their powers with out having to go through years of rigorous study that wizards go through, they have more time to learn fighting skills if they choose to. For a sorcerer, magic is an intuitve art and talent, not a sience. Sorcery favors the free, chaotic, creative spirit over the disaplined mind, so most sorcerers lean twords chaos over law. Some sorcerers favor the god of magic, while others tend twords the god of death magic. How ever many sorcerers fallow some distinct other diety or none at all. ( Most sorcerers are self tought, having no master to induct them into any form of religion.) Sorcerers pick up beginning rudimentary powers at the age of puberty. Their first spells are incomplete and lacking control mostly spontaneous..sometimes even dangerous. A village or household with a up and coming budding sorcerer in it may be troubled with strange lights or sounds, creating the effect or impression of being haunted. Given time the young sorcerer eventualy understands the power that he/she has been wielding unintentionally. From then on at that point, he/she can begin practicing and improving his/her powers. Sometimes but not often a sorcerer is fortunate enough to find and come under the care of a older more experienced sorcerer, someone to help him/her understand and how to use his/her new powers. More often then not, however, sorcerers are on their own, feared by erstwhile friends and missunderstood by fmily and loved ones. Sorcerers have no real sence of group identity. Unlike wizards, sorcererer's gain little by sharing their knowledge and for that reason they have little incentive to work together. With that said ..now one can understand how a sorcerer uses magic |
