The Timeline

Septermber 2000: The decision is made to bring the car to Canada to rebuild it.

Novermber 2000: Car is towed to Vancouver, B.C. where the rebuilding will take place.

Novermber 2000: Motor and transmission are removed. I decide it best to remove all the old paint and primer rather than paint over top of it mainly because it already had 3 paint jobs.

December 2000: Motor is taken to Humphrey Automotive© for a complete long block motor rebuild.

December 2000: Unfortunately, the engine compartment is badly rusted and needs multiple patches to be welded in. This requires the removal of fenders. In addition to that, the body has some problematic areas that need to be taken car of.

January 2001: Motor is completely re-assembled and the tranny is ready to be bolted on.

February 3, 2001: The engine compartment has been fixed. Once the tranny is bolted on, the motor is ready to go in.

February 8, 2001: The motor went in today! It looks awesome!

Background Info

The car is a 1969 Mercury Cougar. It has been in my family since the day it rolled off the showroom floor. My dad owned it before me, and my grandpa owned it before him. When I brought the car to my shop it had been sitting in a garage for about 8 years and it didn't run. The major problems on the car were the engine which had never been fully rebuilt, the body was in fair condition but had some rust and paint bubbling and the rear axle which needed work.
