this is the tree I helped a man in Cumuruxatiba cut down using a machete.......... Bahia taped me doing that on the video camera...........

Sombreiro(Quercus  suber) is from the South of France. At 1,000 years of age, it is the oldest tree of it's species.  It is also the largest standing at 6.10 meters (approximately 18 ft).  It comes from the family of Fagáceas, and is used for the extraction of cork.  So when you open a bottle of wine, you now know where the cork comes from............  seriously!!!!!!
