Ch 3 - Charon Vashito
Outside of a double-enforced polichron-coated somehow-scratched window two feet in diameter, millions upon millions of stars shone faintly. And one star shone not so faintly, its red glare illuminating and baking the nearby planet and moon. Despite this, the temperature on board the starshuttle was a frigid 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Shivering in her tank top, Charon decided that she had heard that space was cold, but this was ridiculous.
Stop fidgeting, Mathon grumbled, he himself slouching in his clothes to gain as much warmth as possible. We will be gating soon, and you need to be still when we do.
Yes Mentor, she muttered, attempting to fish a pen out of her back pocket while trying to appear as though she wasnt fidgeting at the same time. She absently wondered where her goggles had gone, then absently reminded herself that they were on her forehead.
The intercom sparked to life, the female voice speaking in the same calm tone that a person on sedatives uses. Passengers, we will be passing through the Warp Gate in less than a minute. Please be sure that your seatbelts are buckled and that all movable items are properly stowed. Thank you, and hold on.
And they passed through the Warp Gate, and all hell broke loose.
When time and space, or either of the two, is tampered with, the resulting side effects can be rather disorienting. As the Warp Gate shot the starshuttle from its current location to another Warp Gate hundreds of light years away within seconds, a few quite interesting experiences occurred to the passengers. Up was down. Black was white. In was out. Everything was part of everything else and violently shaking and Charon viciously wished she could reach one of those little black bags before something a tad unpleasant happened and she wished that dang pen would stop jabbing her in the
As they passed through the Warp Gate on the other side, the same female came on the intercom, announcing that they had arrived in a voice a bit less placid. We are now in Star City starspace, and will be arriving at the starport in twenty minutes. I hope you enjoy the rest of the flight, and remember that the limit is one person per bathroom at a time.
Charon quietly decided that she was never going through another Warp ever again, even if her life depended on it.
