Strange New World
The Enterprise visits a Minshara-Class planet (known in other Star Trek series as Class-M*) and sends down a landing party to do a survey. The landing party decides to stay the night to continue their survey and sneak in a little shore leave at the same time. When a strong wind storm arises, they are forced to take shelter in a nearby cavern. They begin to see glimpses of strange figures both outside and inside the cave. And the storm is too strong for the shuttle to come rescue them.
* The Star Trek Encyclopedia Updated and Expanded Edition defines Class-M planets as being small, rocky terrestrial worlds with oxygen-nitrogen atmospheres. It also says that a Class-M planet generally has nucleogenic particles in its atmosphere; lack of nucleogenic particles would result in an absence of precipitation and surface water.
