Super12 2002 - Round Twelve

I'd like to be able to shed some light on the various possible outcomes and scenarios vis a vis the semifinals, but the only things I know for sure are that the Crusaders will finish on top, the Waratahs are in with a good shot at hosting their semi, and the Reds and Brumbies will need to win this weekend to put their participation beyond doubt.

Brumbies v Blues @ Canberra

A match that is there for the taking. Both teams will need to playing at the peak of their powers. The table is so tight that a bonus point will be vital, so expect both teams to throw caution to the wind and play aggressively. I'm prepared to believe that the Brumbies have got it back on track, and will be too strong up front for the Blues.

Brumbies by 7.

Highlanders v Reds @ Dunedin

This is going to be extremely tight. Unlike the Brumbies v Blues game, an unglamorous victory is all that either team needs to make the semis. I have a feeling that the Highlanders at Carisbrook are going to be too strong for the Reds, who may still be reveling in their victory over the Waratahs.

Highlanders by 5.

Highlanders v Reds @ Dunedin

The Waratahs have looked less potent against quality opposition, and the opposition doesn't get any better than the Crusaders, who, spurred on by a vocal home crowd, will become the first team in the history of the Super12 to go undefeated through the preliminary rounds as they get the better of the Waratahs. This time.

Crusaders by 10.

The Rest

* Chiefs v Hurricanes @ Hamilton - Hurricanes by 20.

* Stormers v Bulls @ Cape Town - Stormers by 25.

* Sharks v Cats @ Durban - Sharks by 12.
