HINDMAN

Wes Fish November 24, 2004
My family and I have been trying to get information on Mae Putney
HINDMAN who had a photography studio in Walters in the early teens.  We have materials from her, as she was our maternal grandfather, Tom HINDMAN, was her husband.  She died in 1916, and was from Elgin.  There are a few photos posted by a James Wolfe of her studio in Walters, but the link is long inactive, and only the photos remain.  Am trying to find out if the museum or preservation of the studio still exists, and also more about her.  Emails to Walters and Cotton County governmental links have not resulted in any responses.  Thank you very much for your assistance.

SHELTON, ODEN
[email protected]
Searching for life and burial information on my GGGrandfather Elias Coleman SHELTON.  Elias died in 1924, Walters, Oklahoma.  In the 1900 census for Ellis County, Texas he operated a feed store, so it is also possible that he was involved in some kind of similar enterprise in Walters.  He was born abt. 1847 Georgia, m. Mary T. (Molly) ODEN in 1868 Alabama/Mississippi.   She is buried in the Navajoe Cemetery, Navajoe, Oklahoma.  She was born February 14, 1848, d. August 22, 1904.  Elias may have moved to Walters c. 1904, shortly after Mary's death, because the town of Navajoe was being taken apart board by board and moved to Headrick, Oklahoma and elsewhere.

MCKINNEY
[email protected]
Looking for the ancestors of Howard Borland MCKINNEY.  He was a physician in Temple, Cotton County, Oklahoma, the son of a Methodist minister who became a physician, I think in the same area.  Trying to find Howard's father's name, as well as Howard's grandfather's name.  His Great Grandfather was Collin MCKINNEY, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Texas. My son-in-law is a direct descendant, but the complication is that I don't have the birth dates or birth places of Collin's son or grandson, or their first names.  Howard had four sons, I believe all born in Temple, Elbert Mouzon, b. 25-Sep-1912 and Howard Eugene, b. 26-Aug-1916. Also Collin Joe and Pickney McElreath, neither of whom shows a birth date.

HENDRIX, SUGGS

Looking for family or other mention of Judge Howard HENDRIX and wife Elvira. Howard HENDRIX is believed to have been a District Judge in the Cotton or Comanche County area, and Elvira died in Lawton in the mid-1920's.  They may have owned a small ranch just outside of Walters.  They had three sons, all born in Walters, Oklahoma: James, Howard, and Barney Watson HENDRIX, who married Climie Lee SUGGS in Texas in 1923.
