| As all of the reproductions in our line are directly
based upon originals produced within the uniform depot systems from
various regions of the Confederacy, some variation in construction and
stitching is allowed within single lines.
The uniform depot system consisted of a central military depot cutting uniform pieces en masse from the textile goods available that day then shipping the piecework off to volunteer or contract tailors/seamstresses to assemble as quickly as possible. The finished goods were returned to the depot and issued in bulk to the troops through typical quartermaster procedure. With this system it is common to see a uniform of the same cut but different fabrics, variations in number of buttons & button placement, drastically different stitching (even within the same garment) and obvious variations of thread. Such variations and individuality may be seen in our reproductions. IN the matter of topstitching techniques used in our reproductions, because we are reproducing a particular style of jacket rather than replicating the actual jacket itself, we give the client the option of hand or machine top-stitching on certain garments. For example, the original Jones and McDonnell jackets both have machine topstitching. We will replicate the original or we can topstitch by hand and still remain within the realm of accuracy. Garments with this option are noted on this description page. Please make note of your preference on your order form. We will be most happy to discuss the most common variations of the uniform in which you are most interested. Please be aware, however, that our product line is limited to the depot uniforms listed. In order to keep our production line running efficiently we have chosen a select few uniform styles and do not reproduce anything we have not directly studied. -CCT
