STUFF TO DO

The village of Tobermory is about a ten-minute drive from the cottage. There are a number of good restaurants and bars in town. The Grandview Restaurant is located right on the water. It is a little more expensive than most of the restaurants in town, but well worth it! The view at sunset is fantastic. The Sweet Shoppe is our favourite place for delicious ice cream, home made fudge, peanut brittle and specialty coffees. Enjoy your treat while sitting on their patio watching the boats come and go. There is a golf course, several mini-golf courses, Medical Clinic, NewVisitor's Center with a beautiful view at the Observation Tower, Laundromats, grocery stores, gift shops, paintball target practice, museum, airplane charters, bingo, and special events at the Community Hall and at the local Legion. The Bake Shop has just relocated closer to the cottage, and has wonderful freshly-made pizza, cinnamon buns, muffins, pies, etc.

If you enjoy the water, several different boat cruises offer deep-water fishing, scuba diving lessons, shipwreck tours or cruises at sunset along the coastline of Flowerpot Island. Discover the lighthouses and the history of the area, as well as the natural beauty. The Chicheemaun is a ferryboat that offers a sunset dinner cruise, or you can take your vehicle directly on-board for a trip around Manitoulin Island.

Also only a short drive away are two sandy beaches, Dunks Bay on the Georgian Bay side of the peninsula, or Singing Sands Provincial Park, on the Lake Huron side (Dorcas Bay). Singing Sands is much larger than Dunks Bay, and the water is much warmer, and more shallow. It also has a public washroom, which is very convenient.
