| We did not find a delicious recipe in Reno so here is the Creme Brulee we promised Katherine. We still don't know how she manages to have this dessert two nights in a row - it wasn't even on the menu the second night ! Creme Brulee 2-1/2 C. heavy cream 2/3 C. milk 3 whole eggs 3 egg yolks 1 tsp. vanilla 3/4 C. light brown sugar Preheat oven to 300 F. Heat cream, milk, and sugar in heavy saucepan to almost boiling. In separate bowl beat whole eggs and extra yolks together. Gradually whisk heated mixure into eggs. Return mixture to sauce pan - cook over moderate heat, stirring constantly, for 3 to 4 minutes. (maybe a double boiler ?? ) Pour custard into six individual custard dishes. Set dishes into a large pan. Place on middle rack in oven. Pour hot water into outer pan up to level with custard. Bake 35 to 45 minutes until center of custard is baked. Set under broiler and broil until sugar melts and forms a glaze .... about one minute. Watch carefully. Remove and chill. This elegant dish was a feature of the famous hospitality of Thomas Jefferson's Virginia home, Monticello. He brought the recipe from France in 1790. Years ago cousin Carroll ordered this elegant dish at a lovely restaurant. Her first bite was a surprise! - salt had been inadvertently used instead of brown sugar on the top of the custard. BON APPETITE !!! |
| Some more things you should do in a life time - Ride in a gondola down the grand canal in Venice See the Sun rise over the ruins in Machu Picchu Stand on The Great Wall Fly on the Concorde Kiss someone passionately in public We recently took a trip to Reno with the Milwaukie and McMinnville Seniors. It is always fun to go with John and Opal in the Golden Coach, even to stopping to 'chain up'. We saw flooding, sunshine, rain, and snow and beautiful scenery. Thanks, John !!! |
