1982-83 Philadelphia 76ers (65-17)
Coach: Billy Cunningham
Between 1976 and 1982, the Sixers won 2 Eastern Conference Titles, but lost in the NBA finals each time. With stars Julius Erving, Bobby Jones, and Maurice Cheeks already showing their prowess, the 76ers acquired Moses Malone from the Houston Rockets. Malone would be the final piece of the Sixers' puzzle as he won MVP honors. The Sixers' 65-17 record would give them an Atlantic Division Championship.
Moses Malone would be the Sixers' prophet as he led them to an ass-whooping of the Knicks in 4 games. They were ready to face the powerful Celtics in the East Finals. But the tides turned in the Sixers' favor as they now had to face the Milwaukee Bucks in this round. As the Bucks beat Boston in the 2nd round in 5 games, it was Milwaukee's turn to lose to Philly in 5 games. Now, the Sixers had a chance to earn revenge against the pesky Lakers in the NBA Finals. But it was the Lakers' turn to be flabbergasted as they got swept by Malone's Sixers. Malone was right when his "fo-fo-fo" phrase meant that they would breeze through the playoffs en route to the Sixers' first NBA title since 1967.
