![[Vincent Page]](graphics/vincent.jpg)
Our first award winner is to a relatively new Vincent Price page, "Vincent's Keep" by Katie Johnson. It's well worth checking out for basic information on Vincent Price. It has sub-pages on Price's films (including name and year), quotes (from and about him), and some poster art. It also has the words and a few pics from the charmingly creepy, Tim Burton's "Vincent".
Designwise the pages do not have a uniform appearance, going from black to white to marble, but they are all easy to read, and upload quickly, and don't have any sounds that start blaring out while you're at work causing your co-workers to look at you funny. (Yeah, that happened while we were reviewing Vincent Price pages, immediately disqualifying said page.) The front page has a nice Price montage bracketed by flickering wall torches, and includes a listing of reference books.
Buffy Madness
http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/Set/5763/
Okay, so we're not particularly Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans, however it looks like a series of reasonable quality and amusement value, and it's what popped to mind when we tried to think of horror on modern television. So it leans towards the comedy side. That's a plus in our books. And Armin Shimerman's in it, so that puts it in the good stuff category.
Finding a good Buffy fan page was another matter. Many are not kept up to date. "Buffy Madness" was updated the day we looked at it. Many have dark distorted backgrounds that make reading unpleasant. "Buffy Madness" had a white background with cool mod purple lettering. It just exuded fun. The front page politely offered frames or no frames, and we entered the framed option. Inside it had a picture gallery, episode guide, links, bios, quotes, interviews, articles, news, clubs and more. A great resource for the show. If you're a fan, you don't want to miss it.
![[Godawful Page]](graphics/GATFbanner2.gif)
The Design of the page is the usual Trek light font on a black background. Navigation points are easily discovered and there are no annoying pop-ups. Graphics aren't overwhelming as they so often are on Trek pages.
![[Mayhem Page]](graphics/mayhemc.gif)
The Electric Mayhem Page
http://www.electricmayhem.net/
We grew up with Muppets; Seasame Street Muppets, Muppet Show Muppets, Muppets in movies. Muppets are a major childhood influence for us. (Okay, so that's probably true of any American television watching kid.) So we were quite pleased to stumble on this delightful page devoted to the all muppet rock 'n roll band, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. (Our favorite was always Animal). This nifty page has TV, movie and album credits for the band as a whole, as well as info on the individual band members.
Designwise it has frames, one too many in our opinion, but they aren't fatally annoying. However what really earned this site its award was there extremely cool counter, which consists of the Sesame Street Count delivering the number of Mayhem fans in characteristic Count Style.
Brad's Marx Brothers Page
http://members.tripod.com/Cleo256/marx/main.html
We've been Marx Brothers fans since we were kids. They're another one of the subjects that we considered basing a web page on, but didn't bother because there are already so many good ones out there. Of course Why a Duck is the big one, and it's quite good, but as a good basic starting point, we like Brad's Marx Brothers Page
The site is attractively presented in appropriate black and white. It contains a lot of information, in edible bite sized chunks, and includes a History of the Marx Brothers, sound clips, photo gallery, quote and links. It also includes a bibliography. We deeply respect people who credit their sources. It's all too rare. The only imperfect point on this page is that it does have annoying tripod pop-ups.
The Monkees Pad
http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Set/9847/index2.html
We were intense Monkees fans a few years back. Oh, not in their original sixties hey-day, but during the eighties revival. (In fact we met some of our best friends that way. Hi, Sheryl! Hi, Dawn Marie!) And we do have our little Monkees Episode Guide, but for complete information we like this page, The Monkees Pad.
It's got everything, lost scenes, quiz, fanfic, photos,(nice selection), links, sounds, news, reviews, loads of other stuff.
It even has (and this is what sold us) a Monte Landis tribute page. There's also some information on The Beatles, but it's mostly Monkees. The pages are well organized and easy to navigate. They're also legible, which isn't easy when you're trying to get the right lettering to go on some of those psychedelic backgrounds. Again the only points off are for pop-ups, not annoying commercial ones, but little homemade ones with useful information. They just get a little tiresome when you're going back and forth to that main page as often as we did.
The Anthony Geary Webpage - http://mcamy.hispeed.com/geary/
Though we haven't watched regularly in a while, our Soap Operas of choice are General Hospital and its spawn Port Charles. So for the May awards we thought we'd scan the current crop of pages devoted to them. Most pages are clumsy, if sincere, efforts to show affection for the shows and their actors. So it was refreshing to surf across this site.
The Anthony Geary Webpage is neatly presented, bursting with content, including articles and interviews, photos, blurbs, General Hospital info, Luke Quotes, Geary Quotes, film, television and theatre. If you want to know about this fascinating actor, this is the page to go to. It's entirely coincidental that we happened to have met the page's author, McAmy, at a GH event or two.
This is just the best page of its kind that we've seen. Sorry now defunct.
An Unofficial Site of All Things Iron Chef -
http://www.ironchef.com/
If you haven't seen this Japanese television program, currently being shown on The Food Network, you're missing out on a show that's more dramatic than all the current American cop shows put together. This show rocks! Somehow, a few years back, we never thought we'd be high-fiving because Morimoto just whupped a Japanese traditionalist cook in Kitchen Stadium.
There are a few fan pages for the show, but the best is the one that snagged the American title as a domain name, Iron Chef.com. Written by Stephanie Masumura, its readable, easy to navigate, information stuffed pages, are similar in design to the Tony Geary site we awarded above. (Call us crazy, but unobtrusive backgrounds, uncluttered by clunky flash graphics is our idea of good design.) This includes an up-to-date episode guide (by Date, Theme and Chef!), news, current TV Schedule, Profiles of the Chefs and cast, links to other Iron Chef pages, and most importantly a drinking game.
Fred Astaire - Dance on Air - http://themave.com/Astaire/
Our first choice for an award had to be a Fred Astaire Page. He goes so well with the Top Hat we've chosen as our symbol. We've been Fred Astaire fans for years and would probably have slapped up a page ourselves, except that there were so many good ones already out there. Here's our choice for the best.
Fred Astaire - Dance on Air, by Julie Stowe, the Raven Maven.
The graphics are impressive, conveying a masculine Art Deco feel. There's an informative bio, synopses of the Fred and Ginger movies, list of his movie and television credits, and which are currently being shown on TV. The "Celebration Page" is a nice collection of images and sounds. The page is up-to-date and easy to navigate. Great resource.
The South Park Cows - http://www.southparkcows.com/
Okay, so our tastes are rather eclectic. We happen to think that the Comedy Central series South Park is the funniest thing currently on televsion. So we went out and looked for the best South Park page. Boy, were we in for a big disappointment. Many of the links search engines came up with went to now defunct sites. And the ones that were there... suffice to say that there are a bunch of fifteen year-old boys out there, unable to spell, enamoured of graphics and with far to much time on their hands. After slogging through muck
for days, we finally ran across a site that immediately captured our hearts. It's The South Park Cows by Mike Marod.
What can we say... it had a great cow graphic on top. It also has relevant content, including an episode section, images section, text section and connectivity section. You can download a real video of an Episode or a script. You can read interviews or a FAQ, follow some still-in-date links to other sites, join a Yahoo-based club or download some 3D images, and a whole lot more. This page is a well-presented treasure trove.
