On June 8, 2004, Venus passed between Earth and the Sun for the first time since 1882. I went chasing clear skies throughout southeastern Manitoba to observe it.

This is a single frame of my Digital-8 video of the transit. This and all other images were shot with a Sony Digital 8 Handycam using the built-in 50x Optical zoom, with a Mylar solar filter from Badder mounted over the front. Because we were chsing "sucker holes" in the clouds, I never set up the 8" Meade telescope with the better camera. And the wind! 40 km/h with no shelter in sight. But we did see it. |
