Guide to Modeling the International Space Station
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
To build a model of the International Space Station, I am pretty much following the process of building the real thing - each module is built separately, and then connected and detailed.
I started with the RealSpace resin set, which provides pressurized modules and solar arrays for Zarya, Zvezda, Unity, Destiny, the Quest and pirs airlocks, three Pressurized Mating Adapters (PMAs), plus 2 Soyuz and 1 Progress spacecraft. All the modules are well detailed, although some of the fine details like the thruster groups had pinholes or a bit of flash to clean up. Still, this set saves hours of detailing.
I first started with a Soyuz spacecraft, drawing my inspiration from Rick Stenbach's Mir build. Also, I wanted to use it with my first model, since it would add some nice detail. At this point, I wasn't sure if I'd be building the entire RealSpace set, or just using a few modules tacked on to the IMR kit for detail. So, the Soyuz seemed a good start.
