3 more days til Christmas!
With Christmas just around the corner and hearing how busy the malls are with people scurrying to buy their loved one gifts it made me really how much we distort the true meaning of Christmas.
Christmas is a birthday. It's Jesus Christ's birthday. It's a little silly how we buy each other gifts when it's Jesus' big day. When it's my birthday I want to receive the gifts not have people exchange gifts with each other.
We try to be politically correct in everything that we do, but why is it that only Christian holidays are affected? We don't have a Santa Claus representing Hannukah. It would seem ludicrous to even suggest that.
Christmas has become all about Santa Claus and the reindeers, Easter has become all about the Easter bunny and the chocolate eggs. What is our world coming to?
I guess when you look at things that way it makes you wonder, "What would Jesus want us to give Him for His birthday?"
Jesus would want us to share His love with everyone. There are lots of people around the world who don't have what we have in North America. We can get caught up in all the hustle and bustle of Christmas with all the presents we have to buy our parents, friends, co-workers, etc.
Of course we cannot give Jesus a gift as precious as a gift He gave for us, but in the future let's try to think about Him during Christmas. For those of you who know me please keep me accountable.
Some relief organizations:
→ Samaritan's Purse
You can fill out a shoebox with items (toys, books, toothbrush/toothpaste, etc.) and Samaritan's Purse will send it to a 3rd World Country.
→ World Vision
I know that there was a lot of bad press about World Vision and their administrative fees, but this is a truly extraordinary program. It's giving an animal (hens, goats, and other livestock) to 3rd World Countries. I think this is more effective than dumping a truckload of food. Giving a gift of livestock ensures that they can live a sustainable life.
