My great Grandmother Martha Wettenhall-Runsclose-Blume-Harrington- Clark-Shelby, well that would be her full name if she had kept all her names. She was married 5 times. Okay let's start at the begining. Martha was born on an Indian reservation in Reserve Wisconsin to a man named William Wettenhall and a woman named MIZ-HAKW-ANIGI-IZHI-GOO-KWE (Don't ask what that means, cause I have no Idea). Her mother and 6 siblings Died when Martha was only a few years old. Since her Father did not know how to care for her she was sent to a Indian boarding school at the age of 4, and from what I can see that is the last time she had real contact with her father. At the age of six she was sent to Carlisle Industrial school She stayed there until she graduated in 1909. She married a man she had met there named John runs-close-to-the-village, and they moved to the rosebud reservation in South dakota. They had 4 children together but only one survived childhood. Not to long after thier children died John died of tuberculosis. According to records in 1918 she had married a man named Loius Blume and had one child with him named Maxine, this is my granmother. This is were the story gets interesting. My grandmother was raised to belive that she was the child of Martha's Third husband Patrick Harrington. No one ever knew Martha even knew a man named Louis Blume until I stumbled upon there wedding certificate on the internet. My family took this news kinda of hard and since my grandmother was already deceased she never knew that patrick was not her real father. I am not sure what happend between her and Louis but by 1920 I found her in the census as living with Patrick Harrington as his maid. I was never able to find a marriage certificate for Martha and Patrick But they had two children together, Emmanual and Gertrude. The remaing years of her life are sketchy to me. I know that she left Patrick because he was very abusive and a drunk. There is even a rumor that he was hanged in 1929, I am not able to confirm that though. I also know that she moved around a lot. She lived in Nebraska, New Mexico and finally settled in Michigan. I am not sure about her other two husbands, I am told they both commited suicide. I am also told by my aunts and father that she was not a very pleasent woman, very mean natured. she passes away in Pontiac Michigan in 1972
