Cory Pugh is a wonderful man and an even better father. At the age of 27 he has been struck with an unfortunate disease- kidney disease. It all started in December 2004 and progressed for several months until he was finally diagnosed with membranous glomerulnephropathy. He has undergone test after test but to no avail. He is being labeled as idiopathic right now. He started a treatment and four days later Cory had severe complications that landed him in the hospital. He had masses of blood clots in his lungs and one very large clot between his kidney veins and main artery to his heart. He was rushed in to have a filter inserted to catch any clots that might make it to his heart. All the doctors were amazed that he made it through. While in ICU for 2 more weeks he had several more complications that required a blood transfusion. Now he has been out of the hospital for 2 months and has been undergoing oral chemotherapy and steroid treatments. He was checked after a month but had significantly declined. They have now upped his dose of chemotherapy and steroids, as well as changing his medicine. The entire team of doctors is at a loss with where to go from here. They have never had a patient not respond to treatment while having such an alarming rate of decline. He is at extremely high risk for heart attack and other severe problems. We are becoming increasingly short on time because of the rate at which he is declining. Our next step is a trip to Vanderbilt to see if they can provide any new insights. At this point Cory is on twelve medications just to keep him from going under. Despite all of this he is still kicking and full of life. He has been so strong and positive through this whole ordeal. The Lord has brought him this far, without Him we don't know where we would be. |
