York District } Personally appeared before me Joseph F. White
one of the Magistrates for said District, Mary
Pettis aged 77 years, and on oath says that she has been very
acquainted with Robert & Elizabeth Marsh for 35 or 40 years, that
the said Robert Marsh was a Baptist Minister, and Pensioner of the
United States. That the said Robert Marsh purchased a track of
land from deponents husband William Pettis, on which he paid up
to the time of his death, within 3 miles of deponents where his
widow Elizabeth now resides. Deponent further says that she
was well acquainted with John, Sarah, Betsey and Rhoda—
children of the said Robert & Elizabeth Marsh, and has
always understood that kity was their oldest child and
year of their said marriage deponent did not know. Said
Kity as she understood that said Kity died before the said
Robert & Elizabeth Marsh came to this country, but has often heard
her spoken by the family and also understood that James, Patsy
& Delphi died when children, and further that the said John Marsh
was nearly grown when she first saw him at the time above stated.
Deponent further says that the said Robert & Elizabeth his wife
were respectable members of the Baptist Church the said Robert
being a Preacher as above stated from her first knowledge of them
and although Indians, were respectable in society and persons
whose statements were undisputed- her
