State of South Carolina } Personally appeared before
York District } the subscriber: Elizabeth
Marsh, a resident of said District aged 78 years and
after being duly sworn according to law, on her oath
makes the following statements as explanatory, to a
Declaration by her made on this foregoing sheet: that she
was married as set forth by her in the foregoing Declaration
sometime in the year 1783, by mutual concent of herself
her husband, Robert Mursh and her parents, which was the
custom and the only way or manner of marriage by
them or their Tribe of people: and said marriage was
by her, and her husband kept sacred and by them
considered lawful – but after many years her husband
Robert Mursh became religious and attached himself to
the Church and became a Minister of the Gospel &
to satisfy the scruples of sum of the bretheren
in relation to his marriage; they were published as man
and wife according to the custom of the Church
of which we were members –
