Ferrari 360 Modena
Kit: Revell AG
Pros:
Great body shape and proportions, small number of parts are well detailed but make for easy assembly. Parts cleanup was minimal, an A+ in my book
Cons:
The way the engine is molded makes detail painting a chore, complicated masking was needed to paint the red engine tops. Brakes are simplified and unrealistic.
This kit would be great if you wanted a cheaper alternative to the Tamiya offering. The kit is good, but if you want spectacular, I would reccomend spending the extra $15 or so for the Japanese kit. I actually built this one from a pre-painted garage sale find. Everything was stripped and pryed apart, then refinished. The interior was a total loss, but luckily for me, my spare parts bin had an entire interior setup from the Revell 360 Spyder kit.
A shot from the rear shows the taillights which were painted with three different shades of Tamiya clear paints. The licence plate is a So. Carolina made with ACME plate maker and has a photoetch frame from Detail Master. The exhaust tips in the kit were poor, so I replaced mine with chrome plated plastic stock.
From above, you can see the engine through the rear glass. Unlike the Tamiya kit, this one has no opening rear hatch. The red tops were a real pain to paint, fortunately liquid masking material came to the rescue! The overall body color is Tamiya TS-38 Gunmetal with several coats of TS-13 clear. I polished it out with two grades of Tamiya polishing compound and Black Magic wax.
The kits front end is spot on. I just wish the headlights would have fit in their openings a little better. I added Scuderia shields from the 360 Spyder kit. The brakes were under detailed discs of plastic with a seperate block of plastic that sort of look like callipers. I tried to paint detail them but they still look poor compared to other kits.
