1989 ZR-1
Kit: AMT
Pros: Pretty good model of the ZR-1, but nothing special really since it's based on a series of promo kits. Interior was good, but a litle on the simplified side.
Cons: The ride height is way too high for a Vette, Tires were to hard and too small needing alot of trimming for the wheels to fit right. Also, the hood didn't fit requiring it to be glued shut and tweaked.
I built this model of the Corvette ZR-1 from the AMT kit. I built it fairly quickly because it was a very simple kit, but I did add minor detailing like photoetched badges from Model Car Garage. Some parts didn't fit fit right, especially the hood which needed to be glued shut making the model a curbside build. Some chassis parts had alot of flash and fit problems too, whch is where I spent most of my tme on this build. All in all it was an O.K. project, but I would have much rather built the Monogram version.
The marker lights and licence plate frame on the rear came from the Model Car Garage set. I actually had to replace two of the taillights straight from the box because they were cracked. The fit of the back glass was also an issue, requiring minor tweaking to get it to fit right.
Another rear shot. Despite what the photos show, the color is metallic aqua green, not blue! The color is factory paint from Dupli-Color covered with Tamiya clear and polished with 3M rubbing compound and The Treatment wax. The ZR1 logo on the back is another photoetched item from MCG.
