Most people shorten her first name to "Marie", since they have difficulty with pronouncing it and because it just sounds odd to them :P Sometimes she gets names which are based on her looks, such as her braided hair.

Marie(ke): The Perfect One, Bitter, with Sorrow. The -ke behind it means, in fact, something like "little" in Dutch. So actually Marieke means "little Marie". No�lle: Born on Christmas Day. Schoenmakers is Dutch for shoemakers, and unpronouncabke for you guys! >:D

As I RPed her, I noticed Marie notices quite quickly if somebody feels down or something like that. If that happens, and the person in question is considered a good friend, she'll listen to him or her and comfort him/her. When considered NOT a good friend, she'll most likely not give a damn :P If the person starts crying, she'll comfort them anyway though. Check Notable Weaknesses. And since we're talking about crying... Marie cries RARELY. There must be something really important going on before her eyes get wet. But actually I'm not sure if I should call that a skill ^^. Other skills... Marie's very into music. She plays the keyboard, but her voice is absolutely the best part when it comes to musical talents. You can catch her humming or singing quite oftenly. Marie has also got a sharp memory, and that is the main reason why she's still quite good at school without doing that much. And lastly, she's, for some reason, quite good at getting odd convos going with certain people..
Marie has difficulty with getting very close to people. Friends are fine, very good friends too, but as soon as it gets too close, such as a romantic kind of closeness, she'll flip. She can't handle that. She's been like this since her twin sister died, and thus she's afraid that people will leave her sooner or later, so she tries to keep her emotions under control. Talking about emotions, it is not hard to see in what kind of mood Marie is, or how she's feeling at the moment. The expression on her face speaks volumes. When she's happy, she beams with joy, but when she isn't feeling well, her eyes are dull and don't 'smile' like they usually do. Her face gets pale sometimes too. Thus, it won't be hard for people to notice she's down or depressed... to get her to tell what's wrong is another story. She refuses to talk about certain things and is cocky. VERY cocky :P Also, when people (especially those she dislikes already) get rude on sensitive subjects, she'll snap and be plain nasty back. She's got a ready tongue and is a smartass, so the things she'll say can hurt. Most of the time she's sorry very quickly after though, especially if her opponent starts crying. She can NOT handle crying people.
Mah-Jongg and other kinds of Chinese stuff. All in all she's very interested in different cultures and religions and all that crap. Further, she likes music, animals, writing in her diary (a MUST for her), being with her friends but sometimes she even prefers to just be alone, in her room mostly. She's also very fond of the beach.
Crying people, people who annoy her, being bothered when she wishes to be alone, when people try to get close to her, the fact that she can't handle people who're trying to get close to her, her brother most of the time.
That she'll lose the ones she loves, that somebody will read her diary, the nightmares she has every night.
She tends to watch people a lot. Not because she's some kind of spy (LOL ^_^), but because she wants to know what's on people's minds, if somethin's bothering them. It isn't her intention to make people uncomfortable by this, but unfortunately they usually get uncomfy anyway ^_^ She also tends to glare and giggle a lot (LOL, odd combo :P). When she's listening to music she likes, she can get lost in her thoughts completely... now I think of it, that happens without music as well ^^
I think I told quite a bit about her personality already, actually! However, I'll try to tell it anyway.. [sweatdrops] I'm bad at this... o.O;
Anyway! Marie can come over as a rather self-confident, smart girl, who's nice to you when considered a friend, but can get pretty pissy when you annoy her. Maybe this description suits her, but she's really not as stable as she's trying to look. She'll collapse at the mentioning of certain subjects. The most important one's got to be her sister who died and left a big black hole in Marie's heart. I'll go more into detail about this in the History part. Thus, the leaving of the one she loved more than anything else, caused her to be more careful with her emotions and now she's got slightly the fright to bind to others. Due to the fact she doesn't really trust most people, or, to put it in another way, she's afraid that other people'll discover she's got her own weak spots too and will take advantage of it, she keeps a diary where she writes things down about her feelings and her fears. Her diary is basically Marie's inner self, if you would read it, you'd know EVERYTHING about her. And that's why she's so scared anybody'll read it. But that's about the "real" Marie. Now onto the Marie as most people know her.
Marie is kinda schizophrenic, being nice to nervous, calm and throughout nice characters, while she can be bitchy and sarcastic to overly self-confident, annoying and mean characters. I guess she just can't stand people who know how to talk back :P Marie likes to have things her way and usually she'll take the leadership. Might somebody else take it, she'll try to get things the way she wants them if she doesn't like it the way the Leader wants them. Gosh, she sounds like a bitch now ^_^ Most of the time she's doing it for the better though! She cares about other people and wants them to be OK, and if somebody tries to hurt them, she'll try to prevent that! ...and now she sounds like a Super Hero o.O Dah! Marie likes to talk and discuss things, even though she tends to do that more with certain characters than others. When among people she likes, she'll be happy and spontaneous, and she'll try to make the other feel this way as well. Of course, she has to be in a good mood then. Most of the time she tries to act "mature" and that kind of crap, but still she can be very childish. She tends to giggle a lot ^_^ When among people she dislikes, mostly because of their way of acting, she'll act inferiorally and be sarcastic and cocky. She can be awfully cocky -_-; And she can be very relaxed, having this atmosphere of "I've got everything under control" around her... well, that's what she's trying to have, anyway. The fact that she rarelu cries might help then... anyhoo, that's it for now methinks, as I said I find it very hard to describe her. You'll most likely get a better idea of her after some RPing ^_~
Marie was born together with her twin sister, Mariska, in Amsterdam, Holland. She was the happy, energetic girl (who always got in trouble as well, because of her ready tongue ^^), while her sister was the more relaxed, wise one. Marie was the youngest of the two, too. They did everything together, from making pies out of sand to annoy the hell outta their brother Dick. Their lifes were fine until they turned six. From around that time, Mariska started getting tired easily, and she got blue spots all over her body. This went on for some time, so after some time her parents took her to a doctor. He told them, after some tests, that Mariska was very ill: she had leukaemia (blood cancer.. note Marie's star sign >: )) After four months of complete torture and heavy medicines, Mariska died. This has to be one of the most important events in Marie's life. She only cried one time though, when she was sitting on the edge of Mariska's bed when she died. But she cried hard neverthless. Marie changed completely: the spontaneous, always smiling girl had vanished to make room for a silent kid with an expressionless face. You could have a better conversation with a wall than with her. Of course, this worried her parents, so they sent her to her uncle Raoul, who lives in the dunes by the sea. At first Marie refused, since she and Mariska always used to go to their uncle and have lots of fun there. However, her parents insisted and she went there anyway. Her uncle was nice to her, but left her alone as well. Marie spent a lot of time at the beach, and then you shouldn't imagine a crowded one wiith lots of sun, but more a quiet, windy one with a roaring sea in the background. Eventually, Marie calmed down and changed to the girl she is now: somebody with a scar in her heart, but somebody who ignores the scar as well. Marie didn't assimilate her sister's death, but pushed it away and refused to talk about it... which she still does.

Marie's got an average voice for a girl her age, not too high, not too low. She's got a Dutch accent, meaning she can have some difficulty with the 'r' and the 'd' and 't' at the ends of words. As the years since she's moved to America (around 8) go by, you'll hear less and less of it though. She also talks with a lot of pauzes, which causes a lot of dots in her talking. Like "Hmm... that's.. quite okay... I guess...". When pissed, she lowers her voice and talks very monotone. When happy, her voice is kinda lively and jumpy.
