books
books are one of the only things that keep me sane (even though i prefer the kind that have the opposite effect.) its rare that a book comes along  and changes the way i view reality. when something that profound happens, i have to fight the urge to recomend the book for the next month to just about everyone on the planet. im not completely sure what feeling compels me to do that. maybe i want someone else to gain as much as i did, or maybe my motives are purely selfish. im assuming that i just need someone else to understand something to make it real in my own mind. that sucks, but its probably true.
for whatever reason, i wind up nearly forcing at least 2 poor(now enlightened) souls  into sharing my experience. most of the time aby is one of the poor souls. since we're into a lot of the same concepts she winds up enjoying the books, and she also wrote about her reality jolt
here. as for me, im going to keep reading. possibly someone will see how a certain book effected me, and read it themselves.
1984
george orwell

ok so for most people 1984 is on a school reading list. lucky for me, it wasnt or i probably wouldnt have gotten out of it what i did. i read it twice, and the second time i understood a lot of the things i missed the first time. it was the story of a man in a world of sheep. his job was to destroy the past. it introduced the concept of truthspeak to me. i dont know, i began to understand that there could be millions of tiny concepts that would make my life so different if only i understood. one word could change the way i think. it made me examine my role in society, and taught me that perception of reality is everything.
survivor
chuck palanuik

survivor was one of the coolest books ive ever read. chuck palanuik is one of the most underappreciated writers in history. most people who know his name just happened to catch it at the beginning of fight club. yes he wrote fight club. yes it was a book first. yes the movie was awesome too.
