Anyone for tatting?
Apart from savvy - there's only one requirement: the shuttle for tatting used with the 1630! Yip - you have to buy it, (I sell them for about $9 999.99 - that excludes VAT!) You may of course buy the el-cheapo version at you local computer store, just watch out! they call them "your basic computer/PC mouse!...VBG! Gotcha!!!
First we will learn the basic tatting knot! Ever drew "cross houses" as a kid? (Maybe it's a South African thing?) You draw a house with a cross through it without picking up your pencil or retracing any lines! Easy - check the piccie out! Yeah, ok, I WAS mean, I drew another one nextdoor without the roof on - so what's the problem, they haven't finished building it!!!

Start at the number 1, then go to 2, and then 3, then 4 (which is the same point as 1) and so on... what do you mean you can't count to 14??? {:-<
Note on the cross - house: when going around a curve (ain't there plenty of those in tatting?), the lines formed by 1-5, 2-3 etc may be pushed outwards or inwards (see my BD example lower down for going around a curve!!) How high the roof?.... about half the height for the walls!!! (half the height of the square block!)
So how do you start? Easy - just draw the lines (curves) of your design and then plaster the cross-house/roofless house along the curves and lines!
Ok, ok, already.. this is what it looks like on the BD software!

What do you mean what did I do!
Oh! I get it - there where the booble comes out of the curve? Hmm - ok, that's easy, you can't continue with House/roofless/house/roofless when it comes to sharp curves - you use a couple of the roofless ones to get around the curve/get outta the tight curve!
Not convinced this looks like tatting? So look at the results: (Nah-nah, tsk-tsk!!! BAD GIRL! I thought I made it CLEAR we don't have burn-away in this country - so I used vinal/vynal (that clear soft plasticky stuff that you can sew with to make see through pockets in little bags!!)

| ..and so? So what if I didn't sew straight in all the exitement of the moment? You never been on honeymoon!!!
Ah yes... placement of the foot (Nah-nah!!!not so fast - don't you scoot down and rush off downloading the file to mess it all up!!! ) the clear vynal is on the right(the little white line to its right is the end of the vynal) and the material on the left! Place the material so that it lines up with the notch/line in the middle of foot #40! (What do you mean you use #20? - Ok, ok, then go figure it out yourself!!!) |
Still not convinced? Have a close-up look!

Now if that ain't tattin' - (Yeah ok, I'll personally poison the one who tells my mother or Gina!!!) but you gotta admit....What do you mean "those white blobs" on the piccie - I SAID - I used vynal, and tear-away below, and late at night is not the best time to pick away those eensy-teensy bits of tear-away!
Ok, so someone somewhere still ain't beleivin' this is 1630! Look at the underside:

See! I told ya!!! Hmmm.. those "other" bits of white? I used metrolene on the bobbin... nice and thin and doesn't bunch up!!!
Yeah-yeah... enough already - here's the file!!! No, not there, click
What do you mean you wanna go back? Back where? Oh, ok, home....
so use the little house to click on (No silly - it's NOT tatted!!!)
