LITTLE DROPS
The summer had been so hot that watering lawns, washing cars, and any frivolous use of water was banned. Every evening after the sun went down, however, I carried a pail of water to my salvia plants. They gave so much to our enjoyment of summer, I thought they deserved to live. Their bright scarlet flowers were so attractive, and the humming birds daily sipped their nectar.
One evening, as I started to pour the water, I saw something bright yellow almost under my foot. I stepped aside to find a cheery little marigold plant, bursting with blooms. I hadn't planted it - it had probably sprouted from seed thrown down by the previous year's plants. The drips from my watering pail had brought the seed to life, and now it rewarded the kindness with vibrant color.
In life, we may also spill little drops of kindness and be surprised at the benefits. Sometimes just a smile or word of praise brings good results. People who feel depressed and unappreciated often blossom when they realize someone cares and acknowledges their efforts.
Even though we may not see the result of our kindness to others, like the marigold, they may sprout and proclaim God's love to all.
