"And do not get drunk with
wine for that is dissipation (indulgence), but be filled with the Spirit,
speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and
making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; and be subject to
one another in the fear of Christ."
Ephesians 5:18-20
The Spirit-filled life is to be an abundant life. Here are four
points the passage reveals:
1) We are to be filled with the Spirit
(this is a command); not drunk with wine, which is indulgence. In
order to live a Spirit filled life we must first be filled with the Holy
Spirit; this is a daily process.
2) Speak to one another in psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with our hearts to the
Lord. Words that are edifying to one another and lifting
our voice in one accord to (and of) our awesome God is pleasing in HIS sight and
allows us to draw closer to Him and unite together as brothers and
sisters in the Lord.
3) We are to always give thanks for ALL things
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God.
First Thessalonians 5:18 shows us that giving thanks for everything, during
everything, is God's will for us. Romans 8:28 teaches us that
all things work together for good to those who love God and are
called according to HIS purpose.
4) We are to be subject to one another in the
fear (reverence) of Christ.
Regardless of our social rank, as Christians we should
pattern our lives after the humility and kindness of Christ; we must remember we
are not to show partiality (James 2:1-4); Jesus died for us all. In
God's eyes we are all equal.
Heavenly Father, help us live this wonderful Spirit filled life to the
fullest. May Your truth be applied to our lives and used to Your
glory. In Jesus name. Amen
Have a joyous day in our
Lord!
April
