As we near the holiday (holy day) season it is laid upon my heart to bring to our remembrance that we are to guard ourselves lest we too fall prey to sin and indulged our fleshly desires whether it be to much food, overindulgence in material things, coveting a relatives home, etc..   Hebrews 12:1-3, I believe, is a great encouragement for us at this time of year.  And it is because of the "great cloud of witnesses" (this is not an angelic host as some may believe but men and women who have shown great faith in our Lord) found in Hebrews chapter 11 that we can have the faith to "throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles."  

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off  everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart."  (Hebrews 12: 1-3 NIV)  

Keeping our eyes on Jesus, the perfecter of our faith, during the holiday season will be an outward testimony to those we love and hold dear to our hearts - what a wonderful gift to give those who know the Lord and especially to those who may not.
