THE OLD RUGGED CROSS
The Old Rugged Cross is a dearly loved hymn of mine. From the time I was a little girl at Sunday school I loved it. It's only been within the past 4 plus years that I have really come to understand it's meaning, making the beloved hymn more special to my heart.
It starts out, "On a hill far away stood and old rugged Cross the EMBLEM of suffering and shame. And I love that old Cross, where the dear-est and best, for a world of lost sinners was slain."
Galatians 3:13 says, "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us - for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE." Though the Cross is an EMBLEM of suffering and pain, we can rest in the promise that the "Dear-est and Best for a world full of sinners was slain." the chorus to this wonderful promise is "So I'll cher-ish the old rugged Cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down. I will cling to the old rugged Cross, and exchange it someday for a crown."
All praise and glory to you Lord, Creator of heavens and
earth. May we all rest in the promise of The Old Rugged
Cross. By April Correia
