Be Ye Holy, For I Am
Holy
In studying the book of Leviticus we learn
that the LORD is teaching obedience to the priest as well as
the people. When you sinned, whether is was unintentional or intentional,
there was a specific procedure, of sacrifice, to atone for your sin. You
had to bring a bull calf, if wealthy, or a grain offering, if poor; what was
sacrificed wasn't the issue - obedience, the attitude of the heart, was the real
issue. As for the priest, he had to follow a very specific guideline in
how to present the sacrifice to the Lord so that it would be pleasing and
acceptable in the sight of the LORD.
The Lord Jesus is teaching us obedience through His word under the New
Covenant of grace. And though we now live by grace, under this New
Covenant, God still calls us to "be holy, for I am holy." (1 Peter
1:16).
In Philippians 4:8 we are encouraged to, think on things that are true,
noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, if there is any virtue and if there
is anything praiseworthy - we are to meditate on them. A.W. Tozer wrote, "Our voluntary thoughts not only reveal
what we are, they predict what we will become." A few questions
we might ask ourselves : "What do my thoughts reveal about
me?", "Do I think on things that are true, noble, just,
pure, lovely, of good report, when there is anything excellent or praiseworthy
do I meditate on them?", and "Do I strive to live a life of holiness
before my Savior, thus living this life before others?"
Let us rejoice in our merciful God who teaches us obedience in a gracious
way and may we strive to be holy as He is holy.
Have a wonderful week in the
Lord!
