35Again
the next day John was standing with two of his disciples, 36and he
looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of
God!”
John 1:35-36
John, to my dear friends in Christ; in John 1:35-36
we see John the Baptist's declaration that Jesus is the Lamb of God. The
Bible teaches us, from the Old Testament, that a lamb was required twice a day
as a sacrifice to God on the Alter of Burnt Offering (Exodus
29:38-41). The Bible also teaches us that a burnt
offering was for atonement for sin (Leviticus
1). The Old Testament says through what is known as Messianic
text (text alluding to the Messiah) that the Messiah was to be led as a
sheep to slaughter (Isaiah 53:7,
He was oppressed and He was
afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter,
And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His
mouth.)
And from John 1:29 we see Jesus was offered to take
away the sin of the world. This is in the sense of all the past, present, and
future sin, so that Jesus only needed to be offered once to atone for all of the
sin of the world. God offering any other kind of sacrifice would have been
imperfect. The Bible also teaches us that perfection is found only in God, so
Jesus had to be God as well. Any other sacrifice would have been imperfect,
whether man or an angel, and would not have atoned for the sin of the world.
Awesome isn't it.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the Gospel of John, help us to tell those around us of the good news and the deity of Jesus Christ, in Jesus name I Pray, Amen.
God's Many
Blessings to You,
john
