"For this reason also, since the
day we heard of it (their love in the Spirit), we have not ceased to pray for
you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all
spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may walk in a manner worthy of
the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and
increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to
His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience;
joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the
inheritance of the saints in light." Colossians 1: 9-12
What an encouragement it would be to you and I to know that someone was
praying for us on a continual basis. Try to imagine how encouraging it
must of been for the church at Colossae to know that Paul and Timothy where
praying for them on a continual basis; during this time
unorthodox teaching was subverting the church, this was
also a time when making your faith known could cost you imprisonment or
your very life.
They were praying for them to be filled with:
- The knowledge of His (God) will in all spiritual wisdom and
understanding.
- That they could walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him
in all respects.
- Strengthened with all power according to His glorious might for attaining
all steadfastness and patience.
They gave joyous thanks to the Father. Why? It is He who
qualified all to share in the inheritance of the saints in light; Jesus
said, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be
hidden . . . Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see
your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven." (Matt. 5:
14,16)
Tough I believe everyday should be a national day to pray, today
we honor National Prayer Day. Join me in praying the above
prayer for not only our immediate church family but for the church
worldwide.
Have a joyous day in our Lord!
