Many thanks to dpgreek (Dimitri Papadimitriou) for this write on VWvortex!
I've read a lot of topics on this and people have asked how to do it. I tried to take a pictorial how-to. If I missed anything, let me know.
First you start off with the visors. On the driver side you will have to remove 4 phillips head screws.
Then on the passenger side you remove the same 4 screws, however be careful when you remove the bracket closest to the door because you have to unclip the wire that goes to the vanity mirror light.
Next you move to the center panel for the sunroof. Get a flat head and pry down the plastic and pop it out.
Once you do that, you will find two phillips head screws you have to remove...
when done, the motor is exposed...
Then move on to the sunroof molding...it just pulls up and out...
Next step is removing the oh-st handle on the passenger side. Find a pick or a small flat head and pry off the caps covering the phillips head screws. Be careful because they can break easily.
Then you move up to the front of the A Pillar. Carefully get the flat head in there and remove the cap which is another phillips head screw
After removing the screw, the A pillar pops out.
Next is the B pillar. Being by taking your trusty flat head and pry the coat hanger plastic piece upwards to reveal the phillips screw
Then halfway down the B pillar, remove the cap again to get to the phillips head screw.
Lastly at the bottom of the pillar is one more phillips head. Remove and then the B pillar should pop off.
To remove the C pillar, take a flat head screw driver and pry up the plastic cover on the seat belt assembly. Below that is a 17mm bolt. (not pictured)
Then the C pillar should pop out. Be careful to not break the clips. (shown below is a view of the passenger side C pillar being partly pulled away) also note, I didn't fully remove it, I just pulled it away to get out the headliner.
Then it's on to the rear panel right above the rear windshield. It pops right out. Again be careful of the clips...
your headliner will be hanging down at this point. Slide it slightly forward and then right back out of the rear hatch...
and you're done.
PLEASE NOTE: I can not offer technical advice on an install nor do I sell moonroofs, I simply archived this info.
