Visual Literacy 1
There were so many drawings that I just don't think I want to put them all in here.  However, I will put in a few that I think were particularly good.  On the right is a five-value drawing with conte on brown paper.  It's a picture of my Aunt Betty's sewing table, which is now in the main hall bath of our apartment, with a few towels and a bar of soap sitting on it.  The shower curtain is on the left, and you can see a corner of a painting, which also belonged to Aunt Betty, on the wall above the towel bar.  The drawing has a few problems, I know, but I think that it's pretty good for a beginner.
Here is an infinite-value drawing of a piece of material, a spool of thread, and an old-fashioned tomato pincusion on my desk.  Again, there are some problems, but not bad for a beginner.
Bones - infinite value, chalk and charcoal on drawing paper.
Self portrait, infinite value, chalk and charcoal on drawing paper (using strong directional lighting.
I can't even believe I'm putting this picture on my homepage -- it's a self-portrait which we did at the beginning of class to use as a comparison to one at the end of class.  Infinite value, pencil and charcoal on drawing paper.  Yeechhh!
Here's the final drawing.  Infinite value, chalk and charcoal on drawing paper.  Quite a difference.  However, it makes me look like Alfred Hitchcock... "Good Evening..."
Among the other projects which we did, was a mask of our face, showing the various planes.  This was very difficult to do.
This was a construction, which was my representation of Hertzog and De Meuron's contemporary "Stone House".  It's constructed of wood, plexiglas, and aquarium gravel.  It epitomizes the simplicity and proportion (including negative space) of that building.  Each piece of gravel was individually selected and fitted.  I got an A on the project.  (This was actually done in the first rotation on composition and analysis, even if I am putting it in the section on drawing.)
