We also believe that we must search out our ancestors, and perform sacred ordinances for them by proxy, which they may not have had the opportunity to perform for themselves. We believe that this is a practical application of our love and gratitude for them. We also believe that we may be reunited with them in the next life. As Malachi prophetically stated, "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse." (Holy Bible, Old Testament, Malachi 4:5,6)
