Ah, beautiful Freedom™. Canadians and Americans have enjoyed almost unparalleled amounts of Freedom™ for many years. However, since 11 September 2001, security has been deemed more important than Freedom™. In response to the attacks of this day, the United States implemented the PATRIOT Act and Canada implemented Bill C-36, the Anti-terrorism Act. Critics fear that these acts may erode our civil Liberties™ and Freedoms™.
Terrorism, PATRIOT and C-36 are something that no normal person should worry about. I imagine that reading the above paragraph made you depressed and I would not be surprised if you had wanted to stop reading this article. I'm glad you kept on reading, because here is the Good News™.
Thank God™ for corporations! They make it all go away. Freedom™ through consumption is something that no government would ever dare take away. Consumption is perfect and good; it could never be connected to anything as horrible as terrorism. Consumption is directly related to happiness. The more people consumes, the happier they get. Through consumption, consumers have many choices and choices are what Freedom™ is all about. Real Freedom™ is in the brand of jeans you buy, the type of shampoo you use and the hamburgers you eat. You, and all consumers in North America, enjoy Freedom™ every day though these choices in consumption.
So, the next time you see some fear-monger talking about terrorism, the PATRIOT Act or Bill C-36, just ignore them, change the channel and enjoy that hamburger of your choice.
