continuing.... V-berth - an arrangement without condensation
Did I mention that the mattress height is 10 inches?
Oh boy.... when we were in this local shop, we were just overwhelmed by all the choices of matresses.... the one we chose in the end was one of the rather economical ones (although still high quality) and had the least height. Only when we brought it into the V-berth did we realize how tall they really were. One almost needs a ladder to climb up now! Luckily, despite the height, there's still plenty of headroom left in the V-berth. And since we got rid of our backpain, some "bed climbing" every day is okay too.
The mattresses do NOT touch the fiberglass at the sides or at the end (at the peak or tip of the bed).
This was done intentionally. If the mattress would have touched the fiberglass, condensation would have formed.
What we did to prevent the mattresses from sliding sideways and leaving a gap in the middle....

To the left you can see the gap, where condensation DOES form. We found out that there is NOTHING we can do. And as long as it is a small puddle somewhere on the fiberglass towards the tip of the bed, we won't worry about it. Not as long as it doesn't soak into anything.

I also should explain the sexy leopard pattern on the fabric below... this is where our dog likes to sleep (under the bed). She too got wooden platform, because down there also condensation formed. Now she steps up just 1 inch onto foam, that sits on this platform. Behind this leopard fabric are two pieces of wood, covered with a thin closed-cell foam, so that the fiberglass sides do not radiate such coldness. Now her place is really warmer!

REMINDER TO MYSELF: When the dog is gone, we'll place a stepping stool below there for easier "bed climbing".
