Richard Hillman Confesses
March 2002 - 19.4 million viewers
Review by: Ridget
Months of suspense and killings had passed and only Audrey and Archie had realised. The penny was starting to drop and in this chilling two hander, a third of the nation was gripped. Nail-biting drama as Richard announced he had 'a confession to make' - the confessions kept coming and coming in the 35 minute episode and the best bit for me was Gail's line 'you're Norman Bates with a briefcase' and when Richard pinned her to the sofa, covering her mouth and whispering to her. 'I love you!' he cried. 'I hate you.' was the tearful, terrified response. And as Richard was thrown out, he tearfully contemplated his future outside as a train rushed past, the sound electrifying the air - and Gail collapsed, phone in hand, to call her Mum, and apologise for doubting her - she was right all along. Richard was a murderer. Absolutely terrific, compelling, gripping, shocking, tremendous - one of the best soap storylines of all time.
Mark/Linda/Mike Wedding Episode
September 2000 - 17.1 million viewers
Review by: Bootlaces
It was tacky and completely unbelievable! But it had a charm- a little charm that I kept going back to again and again. All three of the leads had great chemistry and I think that's what made it worse.
It culminated in an hour special which also showed the death of drug dealer Jez Quigley. To have Mark drink too much at the reception and tell his Dad, on his wedding night, that he'd been sleeping with his new, gold digging stepmother, I thought, was absolutely brilliant!
The Rovers Fire
April 1986 - approx 18 million viewers
Review by: Dippit
The first half of this episode was very good. And it even had a special opening!
Anyway, Bet woke up to find the Rovers on fire. She tried to escape, but was overcome by smoke...throwing up on the stairs to boot! (And yes, she actucally threw up for real! If you ever want to see the contents of Julie Goodyears stomach then this is the episode to watch! LOL). Meanwhile, Kevin and Sally had just come home from a concert and were snogging on the street. All of a sudden, they realised that the Rovers was on fire! Kevin Sally ran around the houses knocking on everyone's door trying to wake them all up. Eventually, everyone on the street came out to see what the fuss was all about. Eventually, Kevin decided to go into the rovers to get Bet out. The lads fetched a ladder, and eventually Kevin managed to rescue Bet...getting her to the window where the firefighters managed to get them both out.
By the second part of the episode, the fire had been put out. Bet was in the hospital and several people went to visit her. At the same time, Jack had realised that he was responsible for the fire because he had tampered with the fuse box during the sing-along the night before. Jack told Terry, but didn't want to tell Vera for fear of upsetting her.
All in all it was a great episode...although I found the fire to be over and done with too quickly for my liking. Of course, it might have gotten a little tedious if they had stretched the fire over the entire episode.
