New RSS Feed added to Coronado Toastmasters Club Website

Dear Members and Visitors:

Today an RSS Feed was added to the Club website. This tool automatically informs subscribers of changes to the website. For example, when a new monthly schedule is uploaded onto the site you would receive notice of it.

I hope this tool proves useful to you. Any suggestions to improve the quality and usefulness of the website are welcome.

See the RSS Feed icon near the top of the website's home page at www.geocities.com/coronadotm.

District 23 Calendar Link Removed: May 8, 2007

Fellow Coronado Toastmasters:

For the past year, I have striven to learn more about HTML, search engines and related topics to improve our Club web site's standings in search engine results. The purpose was to help increase visitor traffic to our web site and ultimately, to help maintain and grow our membership.

Since, statistics show the majority of web surfers select one of their first 5 results, my goal was then, and now remains, to keep our Club website listed among those first 5. Web page size, keyword and subject relevance, powerful keywords, mulitple directory listings, reciprocating links, and regular maintenance were all important steps to achieve better rankings.

Today, I am happy to report we are consistently lsted in the Top 5 results on Google, Yahoo!, Ask, AltaVista and MSN when search terms like "albuquerque toastmasters" or "toastmasters clubs albuquerque" are used. Of course, the work continues and your feedback is always welcome.

In one more change to maintain our web prominence, today I removed the link for the District 23 Events Calendar for 2 reasons. You can see it at: www.geocities.com/coronadotm.

First, our Club website's visitor traffic data indicates few visitors used the link. Further, the calendar is easily found on the District 23 website. The District 23 website link will remain on our Club website.

Second, by removing non-reciprocal links from our web pages increases the probability of better search engine rankings. In short, it can drive more visitor traffic to our Coronado Club web site.

I hope I have answered your questions which may have arisen due to this myriad of recent changes. Again, please contact me if you have suggestions or questions at our next meeting or by email: jkirk7@aol.com.

Have a great day!

Oliver Wendell Holmes said, "Once stretched by a new idea, the human mind never reverts to its original dimensions." That happens when we embrace a Toastmasters GIFT ... the COURAGE TO STRETCH. Your skills increase, your self image improves, and you begin to find your voice. The second Toastmasters GIFT is ... the CONFIDENCE TO ACHIEVE. This confidence impels you to test yourself and take on tough challenges. Achievement feeds your self-esteem. It fuels your desire to accomplish bigger and better things, and you realize that all things are possible to the person who dares to dream and take action. Courage and confidence lead to the third Toastmasters GIFT ... CARING TO BUILD. As you develop yourself, you start focusing on the well-being of others.

Dilip Bayasekara, DTM

Toastmasters International President

Toastmasters in Every Town

Toastmasters Clubs are practically everywhere!

Just go to the Toastmasters International website, www.toastmasters.org, and click the FIND A CLUB link. Once activated, this FIND A CLUB function allows you to sort clubs nearby by meeting days and times.

During my stay in South Carolina, I found 2 clubs within 3 miles of my hotel... and both had a website with contact information and directions. So, I contacted them and went to a meeting. What an exciting thing it was to visit with Southern folks with whom you share a common interest!

So, the next time you travel, remember that the comraderie and interaction you've found in your hometown Toastmasters Club is never too far from your door... even when you're away from home.
