Greetings From Area Code 207 Volume 6

98.9 WCLZ-FM, in association with Cornmeal Records, is proud to announce the November 8th 2005 release of "Greetings From Area Code 207 Volume 6", a compilation CD of songs from the Alt-Country and Roots-Pop musicians and bands of the greater Portland Maine area. As with Greetings From Area Code 207 Volumes 1- 5 (compilation CDs released in November 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004, respectively), 100% of the proceeds will go to benefit the St Lawrence Arts and Community Center in Portland, an historic church on Munjoy Hill, dedicated to providing the citizens of Maine with a center for recreational, artistic and educational programs that are affordable to all. The Center, originally built as a Congregationalist church in 1897, closed its doors in 1986 due to dwindling attendance and mounting repair costs. The Friends of the St Lawrence, a grass roots, non-profit corporation that was formed in 1996, bought the building and is restoring it to resume it’s intended role as an important community resource. The five volumes have raised over $75,000 to date. The new CD, along with the previous five, will be available from www.cornmealrecords.com, www.stlawrencearts.org, as well as all Bull Moose Music (with stores throughout Maine and in Portsmouth and Salem NH) stores and Borders Books and Music in South Portland.

98.9 WCLZ-FM has supported local music throughout it's tenure as one of Portland’s top FM stations. It released a series of CD's in the mid 1990's featuring local bands called "Homegrown" (Vols 1-4) and routinely adds local music to it's regular rotation.

Headlining the disc are previously unreleased songs by Slaid Cleaves (a native of South Berwick), Phantom Buffalo, Sara Cox, The Coming Grass, As Fast As, Mark Erelli, Jose Ayerve and Seekonk, along with 14 others. The disc was mastered at the world famous Gateway Mastering studio in Portland by Adam Ayan.

Volume 6 also includes a bonus EP of live music from national artists who played unplugged at WCLZ’s "Studio Z” in 2004-5. These artists include Ray Lamontagne, Carbon Leaf, Ben Lee, The Perishers (with Sarah McLachlan), Blue Merle, De Sol, Rod Picott with Slaid Cleaves and Low Millions. They have generously donated these performances to our fundraising effort and all of these performances are previously unreleased.
