June's Archive...

July 30th, 2002

Ok, sorry I haven't updated in a while. We've had some pretty good games in the past two weeks. The stadium was cool, going to have to try that again sometime. Nice and squishy.

Brett, my brother Bill and I headed up to Rochester this past weekend for the RUB 2002 Ultimate tournament, had a great time. Lots of sun, a bit o' quick but fierce precipitation, 4 games Saturday, 2 Sunday, and more aches, pains, and bruises than industrial strength ibuprofen could counter. Hit dinner at Dinosaur Barbeque (MMmmmmmm!!!) and an Ultimate party at the Water Street Music Hall.

Our team ended up being almost all pickups since only one guy from the actual team showed. Had a nice diverse group: the one from Boston, two from Ottowa, one from Toronto, two more from Boston, one from Cornell, one from Philly (my brother), Brett, and me. Great group of guys, nice and good skills ta boot. Got a little rough with only 3 subs, but meant more pt for all.

So overall, a great weekend. I think the one thing I took from it was that I've got to get in lots better shape before my next tournament. Run hard, play hard.

Check out the pics page for some images of the weekend.

Ok, so I've been slacking. Surprised?
First and foremost, our game tonight's going to be in War Memorial Stadium (the East High school stadium), gonna try out the turf for a change. Also, we're going to play tomorrow night (Thursday) on the regular field, so hope we can get some people out for both.

So what's been going on since the 2nd? Well, last Wednesday we had a record 17 people hit the field! Had 7 new people show, one West coaster from days past (great seein' ya DJ!), and 9 regulars show. It was a great 7 on 7 game, definitely helped having a few subs with the hot weather.

Sunday we had a good but hot 4 on 4 game, 'nother good day.

I guess that about sums things up. Hope to see y'all out Wednesday and Thursday. C'mon, at least lots Wednesday...playing in the stadium'll be cool.

July 2nd, 2002

Feels like the season's finally here...had two great games in a row, had 8 come out on Sunday and 11 last Wednesday! Both were a little hot and tomorrow might be more of the same, but it's worth it. Bring some water, gatorade, powerade, lemonade, marmolade, whatever gets ya by.

June 25th, 2002

Well, I couldn't make it on Sunday, but heard there was a great game o' pickup. Got some new people from Elmira, glad to hear that! Next game (I think) is tomorrow at 6.

Also, haven't heard much about the RUB tournament. My bro Bill was trying to get some people to field a team, but don't think he's had much luck. I know we've got about 5 here that said they're interested, but we'd need more than that (preferably at least 10). If you know of any others you could drag by the hair kicking and screaming, maybe from an old college team or whatever, let me know. Spots are almost full, already have 18 open and 15 women's teams signed up...

June 19th, 2002

Good crew! Finally had some full-field Ultimate going. The grass was long and it was a hot one out there, but we had a great game 'o 4's. Next game is on Sunday...TIME CHANGE, 5 o'clock!

June 13th, 2002

5 must be the magic number, had another box crew out on Wednesday. Was a blast though, mixed it up a bit by making 2 endzones, could score in either and still had to take it back behind a line on turnovers. Made offense easier and made for some cool strategizing.

Next game's on Sunday, bring the pops (aka Dad) for a little Father's Day Ultimate!

June 11th, 2002

Well, had a crew o' 5 Sunday, played some box. Gorgeous day out for it, if a little hot. Only two of the people from the previous week were there, so I KNOW we can get at least 4's. So let's see if we can reach that winning number (sounds like a WSKG pledge drive...) on Wednesday at 6:00! Thanks for your support.

And it continues....sorry if you're one of the people I told a month or more ago that I'd send something out. Brett sent a note out last week, and I guess they had enough for some box. Cool, good start. Hope to get a good crew, sounds like there's still interest and maybe we can spread the word a bit more this year, get some new recruits. BTW, sorry to those of you who've had your positions cut at Corning, dark times right now. But on the bright side, it's SUMMER TIME! Enjoy it as much as possible!

Anyway, Brett's sent out another note for this coming Sunday (June 9th) at 4:00 PM behind East High. Hope to see lots of people out!

Two more things....first - RUB 2002: The Palindrome, the Rochester Ultimate tournament, is July 27th and 28th this year. I'm going to try my damndest ta play in it this year. Brett, I know last year sucked, but I'm going to talk to Tim this month and confirm some spots if I can...or we could even register a team (...?). Anybody else, if you haven't been to an Ultimate tournament, you haven't seen Ultimate.
Second, I'm thinking of ordering more practice discs from Discraft. Minimum order 10, max 50, $4.25 each, includes s&h (cheap!). They make great wall-art, great as gifts, and oh yeah, you can throw them. Anybody interested in one or a few?

Well, send me a note, let me know somebody's out there! New email address is [email protected]. Later all.
