Tuesday

"We have a small, minor issue."

"We have a small, minor issue?"

"We may have an issue."

"What's our issue, Danny?"

"This." Dan said as he unfolded the paper he'd be carrying under his arm and laid it out on the desk.

"It's a paper, Danny."

"Turn to page 16."

"Why am I turning to Liz Smith's Column?"

"A better question would be why you know what page Liz Smith is on."

"Lisa used to.."

"Yeah, yeah. Just turn to the page, Case."

"Hmm."

'Hmm?"

"Hmm."

"Are you looking at what I'm looking at?"

"I'm looking at a picture of us, Dan."

"Read the freakin' caption, Casey."

"Sports Anchors Casey McCall and Dan Rydell were captured looking awfully cozy at the Knicks game last night. Am I insinuating anything? Me? Never."

"Well?"

"Well, I'm shocked," said Casey, trying to sound interested, but utterly not.

"Me too!"

"I'm stunned."

"Me too!"

"I mean all you were doing was showing me the play--"

"Yeah."

"So what if you put your arm around me to show it to me?"

"That's exactly what I said."

"It's not like we have anything to hide.."

"Case.."

"Unless of course you know something I don't know."

"Case.."

"Cause I'd like to think you could tell me anything."

"Alright, alright, are you done having your fun?"

Casey looked up and smirked, "You're just so easy to get to, Danny."

"We still have this small, minor issue to take care of."

"I don't really think it'll be a problem. No one believes this gossip column stuff."

Just then, Jeremy knocked on the door. "Uh, you guys have anything you'd like to tell me?"

Natalie followed him. "I can't believe you kept this a secret for so long!"

Isaac appeared next. "What the hell did you two do at the Knicks game last night?"

Kim: "Can I pick out the china patterns?"

Dana: "Um. Uh-huh. Still have a show to do, people." And she walked away, muttering something about flirting.

"Listen, people! There was nothing going on there last night other than two manly, and may I stress manly, men enjoying a Basketball game."

Jeremy: "If you say so, Dan."

Natalie: "Sure, fine, wouldn't doubt you."

Isaac: "Mmm-hmm."

Kim, coughing: "Denial."

And they were left alone once more. Dan turned to him, hands on his hips. "No one believes that stuff, huh?"

Casey simply shrugged, his face distant.

"So I've been thinking."

"A monumental achievement, Danny, I'll notify the authorities." Casey deadpanned, not looking up from his writing.
.
"I'm serious."

"I hate those words. And they don't help any in making you sound less like a woman."

"Why was no one surprised?"

"Excuse me?"

"Why were we, basically, the only ones surprised?"

"And you've lost me already."

"The Gossip Column."

"Ahh. That. Why were we the only ones surprised?"

"Why were we the only ones surprised."

"Gee, I don't, Danny. Could it be that it's not something we hear everyday?"

"Then why was everyone else less than surprised?"

"They were less than surprised."

"They were less than surprised."

"I don't know. Perhaps you should be more aware of your surroundings."

"I'm aware."

Casey stared at him. "Well, good. As long as you're aware."

Thursday

"Why am I aware?"

"I don't know, why are you?"

"Case, please just tell me where you're going with this so we can save all the exhausting dialogue."

"We live for exhausting dialogue, Danny. We write exhausting dialogue."

"I'm aware."

"And thus, we are right back at the beginning."

"Whom should I be aware of?"

"Try, me, for a change."

"Wha- I'm aware of you."

"Sure, Danny."

Friday

"People think we're a couple."

Casey barely acknowledged Dan, who blew into their office at hurricane force. "Huh?"

"They think we're a couple, Casey!"

"I guess asking 'a couple of what?' would be pretty redundant at this point."

"You could say that."

"Who thinks we're a couple, Danny?" Casey sighed, clearly disinterested and trying desperately to finish his script.

"They! You know, They!" Dan waved his arms around wildly, gesturing in the vicinity of the window.

"Ah. They. Thanks for clearing that up."

"I was stopped."

"You were stopped."

"I was stopped on the street by a man and thanked for 'having the courage to show who I am, and not being afraid of prejudice.'"

"Um?"

"I was stopped by a gay man, Casey, congratulating me on my so-called 'lifestyle. Do you see what I'm saying? "They" think we're a couple."

"I'm still a little vague on who "They" is."

"America!"

Casey sighed and stood up. "Why are you so worried, Dan?"

"Excuse me?"

"You heard me. Why is this bothering you so much? I didn't realize you were so insecure about your masculinity."

"Hey, I am not--"

"Yeah, I think you are."

"You're crazy."

"I've never seen you this freaked out--"

"You're certifiable."

"--not even when you had writers' block--"

"I resent that.."

"--And I know you're not homophobic--"

"Well, at least you know *something*."

"--So there must be another reason--"

"And why the hell are you stalking my way?"

"I'm not stalking."

"You're stalking."

"You're projecting."

"I. Um. What..?"

"There's something behind all this paranoia.."

"Case, you think you could stop moving toward me? I'm getting a weird Fatal Attraction vibe here."

"You think you could stop backing up?"

"I'm not!"

"Yeah you are."

"I'm."

"And you're scared."

"I. What. You're crazy."

"You already said that."

"I'm aware--"

"You're scared because the whole world knows something that you only just figured out."

"You're not my therapist, Casey."

Casey closed the distance between them, and Dan was backed against the wall. "That's right. I doubt she'd say 'shut up and kiss me, Danny.'"

Before Dan could comment, the soft lips of his co-anchor covered his mouth. A momentary surge of pleasure went through him at the contact and he responded, the only way he knew how: by kissing back. A few minutes went by, which felt like an eternity when you had Casey McCall's tongue around yours and his sweet breath in your mouth. Finally, Dan mustered up the strength to push him away.

"You. I. We have a show to write." And stalked out of the office.

Casey, swollen lipped and somewhat dazed, managed to call after him. "Then where are you going!"

"To write."

"This is your office."

"I'm going to yours."

"You don't even know where mine is!"

Casey shook his head and sat back down, not before muttering 'neither do I, for that matter.'

He made an ill attempt to continue his script, yet all he could think of was Danny's mouth beneath his and the warm length of his body arching against his own.

Dan Rydell lived a somewhat simple life. He got up, went to work with people he loved, joked around, went to therapy, cried, went back to work, wrote, joked around some more, did his show, went to Anthony's, and went home-- sometimes alone, sometimes not so alone--lately, more alone than not.

To be honest, the last few months had been 'more alone than not'. Yet, he didn't think about it. Didn't think of the fact that he, Dan Rydell, had not been scoring.

Perhaps the most disturbing notion of this was that he hadn't even been trying.

Perhaps even more disturbing was that he'd gotten more turned on by one kiss than any sexual experience he'd ever had.

But perhaps the most disturbing of all, was that he wanted it to happen again.

And again.

Friday Night: The Broadcast

"Well, that'll do it from us tonight. We're glad you stuck with us. And if you didn't stick with us, well then may a house fall on your sister. I'm Casey McCall. And for my part--"

"Thanks Casey. I just have one more thing to say. Just in case anyone is wondering, Casey McCall and I are not a couple. I'm Dan Rydell for Sports Night. Have a good night."

"Are you out of your mind? What the hell was that?" Casey exclaimed after they were clear from air.

"What was what?"

"You're a bastard," Casey stated before storming off.

"Dan, I'd like to see you."

"Yeah, be right there," Dan replied numbly to Dana, his eyes still on Casey's retreating back.

Sighing, he stood and walked into the control room, where much buzzing was occurring.

"May I ask what that was?"

"It's called a statement, Dana."

"Why did you feel the statement had to be made, Dan."

"Because "They" think we're a couple."

"They."

"Yes."

"Has it occurred to you that that article was only in the New York Post?"

"Um."

"And that we broadcast nationally."

"Well."

"And that now, instead easing peoples speculation, you have done just the opposite."

"Uh."

"It's nice to see you speechless, Dan. And by the way, I'm not covering your ass from Trager, if it happens to go that far. Good show, everyone. Well, almost everyone." And with that, she breezed off.

Friday Night: Office

"Hey."

"I'm sorry, are you talking to someone?"

"That's real mature, Casey."

He instantly regretted that comment when he saw the rage in his partner's eyes.

"I'm being immature! What the hell would you call what you did up there, Danny? That was completely unprofessional. What were you thinking?"

"I wasn't. I wasn't thinking, Case. I screwed up."

"You sure did."

"But it's not entirely my fault."

"And why's that?"

"Because.

"Because why."

"Leave it alone, would you?"

"No. I have a right to know. As your best friend, and might I add co-anchor, I think I'm *entitled.."

"Because you got me so crazy with that damn kiss! Alright?"

And with that, he left the office.

Saturday: 2:14am

Dan Rydell opened his door, clad in boxers in a T-shirt. "Well, this certainly is a switch."

Casey sighed, not taking the bait. "You going to let me in?"

Dan shrugged and stepped aside.

"Got any beer?"

"We're not gonna get drunk and fuck, if that's what your agenda is."

"I don't have an agenda."

Snickering, Dan flopped down on the couch.

"I want you, Danny."

"What?"

"Stop playing naive, it doesn't suit you."

Silence.

"Look. There you have it. I want you. I have for some time. You can do whatever you want with that information."

"I. ah. think I knew that, Case."

"oh. Good then. I'll just be."

And suddenly he was spun around and pushed onto the couch, and Danny was in his arms, on him, over him. Warm. oh so warm. And hot. Mustn't forget hot. He would have said as such. He would have moaned and said how sexy he was and how much he wanted him, but his mouth was occupied with a pretty insistent tongue, and it seemed he didn't need to after all--seemed like Danny knew such things-- then again, why wouldn't he?

He was vaguely aware that his chest was being stroked from beneath his shirt, and his neck was being sucked with great enthusiasm. He was vaguely aware of Danny stripping them both of shirts, and moving down Casey's body to rid him of his shoes and socks.

But he became fully aware as he was maneuvered toward the bedroom, and the door closed behind them, and he was slammed up against it. The pure force of it sent a violent shiver to his dick. And an even more intense tremor flashed through him as he became consciously aware of Danny's long, lithe body pressed firmly against his. More accurately, his-- oh so hard-- long, lithe body pressed firmly against his.

Experimentally, he ever so slightly rotated his hips, and was pleasantly pleased when Dan matched the movements with his own, as he drew Casey's tongue into his mouth and moved to suck on his neck again.

Damn, what a mouth.

Images exploded inside his head as he pictured all the things he wanted that mouth to do.

Determined not to be the passive one any longer, he pushed away from the wall and maneuvered them back toward the bed, where they tumbled onto it, landing half off and half on, making this more awkward than it already felt.

They scrambled upward, and it took a few seconds before they could both find a comfortable position.

"Case?"

"Yeah?" Came the breathless response.

"Ah. Case. This is.."

"Odd."

"yeah.."

"Weird."

"yeah.."

"Completely and utterly crazy."

"uh-uh."

"Danny," the voice was whispered, against his ear, while nibbling oh so softly.

"uh. yeah?"

"i don't care."

"Good. Just checking."

"Good. Now shut up."

Danny laughed, which trailed off into a moan as Casey stroked his hands up and down his body, over his stomach, hips and sides of his legs. He sat up then, and slid Dan's boxers off.

____________________

Danny sucked in his breath, as he lay there, naked and wanting. Wanting Casey McCall to do something. But the bastard just sat there, marveling, it appeared, at his flesh.

"Case?" He tried the tentative approach. Seemed to work, as he was now trailing calloused fingers over his pelvis, and slowly-- oh so slowly-- reaching bull's-eye that was the center of Dan's aching.

Involuntarily, he arched into the caress, sighing deeply as Casey's fingers moved at an agonizingly slow pace up and down his cock. Something in the back of his mind though told him to stop this, that he didn't want to come this way, but his body was betraying him, and worse of all, he couldn't get his voice to work.

Casey must have some psychic skills he was unaware of though, because he was now moving off the bed, stripping his pants and underwear, and climbing back in position, a little lower this time, and his head was tipping forward and he was-- oh god was he--

He was. Jesus.

Dan's body shuttered and writhed beneath the tongue that was doing some pretty damn impressive things.

God.

"Case.."

"mmmph."

Dan smiled. This was good-- so very good. And he just let himself go. Filtered all thoughts from his brain and just-- rode the wave.

And screamed as he came.

Casey was aware of slightly damp hands moving across his shoulders. He was gently mouthing his partner's balls, and then licking up his inner hipbone, burying his face in the dark root of hair, enjoying the smell of musk and sweat. He moved upward, dropping light kisses over his belly and chest, until collapsing against the crook of his neck.

He felt Dan's lips moving in his hair, and then he was shifting, and Casey was suddenly beneath him.

And smooth lips were making their way south, nipping at his stomach, circling inside his belly button, bypassing his dick and suckling his balls, then moving engulf the head of his shaft.

Casey was moaning incoherently, his head snapping back against the headboard with every lick. He was sure he'd have a bump by tomorrow but right now could care less.

His body was tensing, and sweat was dripping down his back, and the smell of sex was heavy in the air, and Casey McCall had never felt better in his life.

Suddenly, the warmth was gone. Opening his mouth to protest, a tongue silenced him. He moaned and clutched at Danny's back, arching his body up, needing contact. A whispered voice stilled him.

"No."

"wha-."

"No. Case. uh." He murmured through kisses that were now become fiery.

"Dan."

"fuck me."

"um."

"Case. D'you want to?"

"you sure?" He whispered, breath hot against his face.

"yeah."

"Thought you said no fucking would occur tonight?" He smirked up at his friend.

"No, I said we wouldn't get drunk and fuck. As you can see, we aren't drunk."

"That we aren't, my friend."

"So."

"Right. You have anything?"

"uh. Hand cream."

"That'll do. Be right back." Dropping a quick kiss he hurried off.

Dan shivered in anticipation. This was something, when he'd allow himself to admit, he'd lie in bed fantasizing about. For how long, he didn't know. A good few years, probably-- and though the attraction had always been there--it was more the person than anything. He was Casey McCall, his best friend, the person he loved more than anyone in his life.

They had been moving slowly toward this step for a long while. He 'd seen it, and it scared the hell out of him.

Now that it was finally here, it wasn't so scary anymore.

It just felt.

Normal.

Casey jogged back into the bedroom, only to stop dead in his tracks at the sight laid out for him.

Dan.

Danny.

Danny stretched out on his stomach, legs ever so slightly parted. The steady up and down rise of his chest could be seen across his lower back. And the curve of his ass and firm globes found there were simply sites to behold.

Casey padded over to the nightstand and extracted a condom from the drawer, then knelt on the bed beside his lover. Pressing a kiss against his shoulder blade he coated his fingers and began to gently prepare him.

________________

"uh."

"you okay?" Casey murmured while kissing his back, and held still while his partner adjusted.

"yeah. it's good."

"Want me to move?"

"god, yes."

And he did. Holding onto Danny's hips, he rocked ever so slightly, just quick little jabs. Teasing, tormenting.

"god, Case. Come on."

Casey laughed and breathed, "As you wish," the proceeded to kiss up and down his neck, thrusting in earnest now.

"yes."

"Dan."

"uh-huh."

"Danny. luvyou."

"love you..oh. too, Casey."

Their bodies thrashed, and they moaned and sighed, held each other so tightly, it was hard to tell which body was whose.

Lightening crashed outside as they came.

They allowed the storm to pass over them-- let it sweep them up in it's current-- until long minutes passed, and bodies collapsed and cooled in the dark bedroom, where outside, dawn was breaking.

And the only sound that could be heard was the taper of rain and uneven breathing-- and soft moans of satisfaction emanating from the two bodies curled around each other.

Sunday morning, 8:36 a.m

"Well."

"Yeah."

"That was something."

"It sure was."

"What exactly was that?"

"Gee Danny, I didn't think you were that out of the game."

"And you're stalling."

"I'm not stalling."

"Yes, you are."

"I'm not."

"Stalling and stalking, the things you do best."

Casey sighed, silently admitting defeat. "What do you think it was."

"I. I think it was. You. me. Us. Finally. makenov.

"What was that?"

"You can be a real prick, you know that?"

Casey grinned widely. "I'm aware."

"Yeah, well that's good. It's good to be aware. Wish I was aware."

"You are aware."

"Just. tell me we were making love, Case, otherwise Abby is gonna have a field day with this."

"We were making love," He said quietly, looking at his hands. Then looked up. "Of course we were making love. We're. inluv."

"Thank you god." He exclaimed brightly, and then proceeded to kiss Casey into oblivion.

Monday

"Did you see the gossip column? Now it appears they were spotted at the ESPN Cafe looking 'very cozy'."

"I just wanna know why we weren't told," said Kim.

"I just wanna know why they'd show their face in the ESPN Caf."

"Hey, girls!"

Kim and Natalie did a terrible job of hiding the paper behind themselves and trying to look inconspicuous.

"Hey there, Casey." They said in synch, regarding him warily until he was in his office, then turned open mouthed to each other.

"Was that hickey?"

Monday Night: Broadcast time

"Did you see the paper?" Dan asked, not looking up from his script.

"Uh-huh."

"What, does Liz Smith have photographers all over the city?"

"Dunno."

"Are you worried?"

Casey looked up and grinned. "It's gossip, Danny. No one believes this stuff. Let them talk."

Dan smiled, his eyes brighter than they'd been in a long time. "Yeah well. Not entirely. Attention. Just for the record, Casey McCall was at my apartment last night making mad, passionate, love to me."

And in the control room, the responses were as such:

Dana: That's nice, Dan. 60 seconds to live, have a good show everybody.

Natalie: I knew that was a hickey!

Kim: I'm definitely going to pick out the china patterns.

Jeremy: Ok Chris, you won the bet.

Isaac: Well it's about damn time.

"You're crazy you know that?"

"Yeah, but you love me anyway."

Casey groaned and rubbed his face. "God help me but I do."

Dan's smile could have lit up the room.

"And 3, 2, 1.."
