The Nordhorn range at Klausheide ,lies in the extreme west of Germany, just across the border with The Netherlands. It used to be an RAF range, but nowadays its under German command. Also on this range, several NATO countries can practice here with practice ammunition only.
One of the three control towers wich can be found in the heith landscaped range.Tower Freq.: 387.925
The history began in 1933, when the German Wehrmacht used this area to practice.Just when the war ended, the RAF confiscated the area in 1945 and began to use it as an aicraft bombing and gunnery range.Since then the heith got its name 'Nordhorn range'.
In 1995 the infrastructure such as the control towers got modernized, but one year later the RAF decided that they would leave the range in 2001 or 2002 and from that point, the Germans would take over the command.
Locals have complained a lot about precense of the range and plead to close the range, but the German government won't close the range before the year 2010 is in sight.
