Corn And Disc

(A Very Good Idea With A Very Bad Name And An Ugly Web Page)
GOAL
The goal behind Corn N Disc is to establish and improve the line of communication and cooperation between Ultimate teams within (but not limited to) a basic geographic location (West to Central Illinois).  Hopefully this will lead to many more inner team scrimmages and inexpensive tournaments thus creating a positive environment for both new and experienced players to develop their game.

NEWS
Sun. Feb 27
An Update from Becky (the new Northern Contact, who I can't wait to meet) they have lost who they feel are their best two players and now have "a young team and on a good day have about 14 people"...they will be going to both the Western and ISU tourneys and they plan on going to sectionals...She also passed on an slightly out of date web page..

Also have a new contact for Decatur Ultimate...

All of you should update your information on the UPA contacts page....much of the info for CnD teams is outdated....

Thurs. Feb 24
I think ISU has filled their bids for the Stanely Cup....The Parrots and Springfield were the final two teams entered...

Have finally added contact emails to the page for most of the CnD teams...If you wish to change (or remove) your contact please get hold of me....

Hopefully will be adding a few more teams in the near future..If you know of any teams that may be interested please let me know.

Tues. Feb 22
Check out the Knox web page for Pictures, a summary of their tournament, and a very nice tribute to Natalie Venesaino.

So far the teams signed up for the Western tourney are WIU, Knox, Bradley, St. Thomas, Illinois B, Luther B, Truman State, UIC, Loyola, Illinois Weslyan and Grinnell.  The womens teams so far and WIU, Indiana, Wooster, Wheaton and Knox....

Wed. Feb 16
Just got the word that the Central Plains College Sectionals will be the weekend of April 16-17 at Perdue...

The Gnomes (The one and only ISU) have given more info on their tournament.  In a nutshell it will consist of 10  college/club open teams... They are encouraging that you bring as many women as possible (this is how they meet women)... Four Saturday games followed by a lavish party that night  and a double elimination tourny on Sunday...Cost $120 per team OR $100 if paid before March 13....

Tuesday Feb. 15
Knox Wrap-up
First and Foremost Knox and their Alumni are to be commended for a very touching tribute to an Alum who recently passed away...The tournament will be known from now on as the Natalie Venesiano Memorial Winter Tournament for a woman many of us had never met but all of us now feel closer to...

A few Random Notes
ISU had a tough first day but they did score an all girls point to start off the game with Meddling Kids.....

Bradley stepped up when Augi didn't arrive on Saturday...They were called Sat. evening..assembled a team in an hour and arrived first thing Sunday morning.. They went 2-2 with no female subs... an very good performance on short notice..

Chicago sent a Titcomb free team which meant no freestyle for me..damn..

Western Rocks.. Athletes, talent, desire and leadership.. A very good bunch of kids who showed heart in two hard fought wins vs. the Knox Alumni...

Can't say enough about the Alum team...always fun to watch Ben play and Jen came back from Oregon for the games.. It is this kind of interest and influence which has helped Knox maintain a great program for so many years...And while next year Alex, Sue and Tom JOIN the alums they are leaving a very healthy program full of talented freshmen and sophmores....

The game of the weekend was the Western vs. Knox Alumni Semifinal...it stared with an ugly injury to Ned from the alums...Western jumped out to a commanding lead.. the Alum team came back to tie the game and then Western ended the game on a deflected pass for the winning score...

INJURY UPDATE From Kevin who spoke with Rob Clark..
Ned suffered a single break of a bone in his ankle and as a result one of his leg bones popped out of place..It was a clean break..They were able to pop the bone back into place and put it in a soft cast...Surgery is expected in the next couple of days....

Knox A won the tournament and got revenge for a Saturday defeat by beating Western 13-8... Congratulations

Saturday, Jan 29
You will notice that there are a few added  pictures which  have been  stolen from various web pages within  the Corn and Disc community..It would be my recomendation that you check out the various links below.. who knows you may find a picture of yourself...The Meddling kids page has the most pics...

Western Illinois University will be holding a tournament April 2-3...With a fee of $150 they are looking for 15 open and five womens teams...For more info contact Rob Berg (wiuultimate AT yahoo.com) or drop me a line at
[email protected]....

Spring breaks looks like this:
Earlham and the Meddling Kids have break March 19-27 and the Kids will be playing in the Club section of the
Terminus Tourney in Atlanta on the 19th and 20th...Earlam IS going to High Tide this year after having a very successful record there last year.
Bradley, ISU, Northern, Western and Illinois Weslyan all share a March 12-21 break.  Bradley and Western are both planning on going to
High Tide this year.

Walgreens has some cool gnomes for $3 and I am sure they will sell out soon in Bloomington.. See picture at the bottom of the page...
