Rose Colored Glass
By Corky
Back when I was an ignorant young babe in arms,
my mother knew everything and kept me from harms.
Then time passed by and now as a toddler of three,
my brilliant father would explaine all the world to me.
But when I was past six and had started to classes,
I widened my horizons (and begin making the glasses.)
At twelve the glass tinted and my parents grew dumb.
They wouldn't even notice how learned I'd become.
When I was eighteen and I had gone away to college,
the glass turned pinker as I filled up with knowledge.
At twenty two I knew more then the graduating classes,
and I saw the world through real rose colored glasses.
In no time I was forty and had lived life as it really is.
I had discovered rose colored glasses only hid how 'tis.
Then I was sixty and realized how quickly the years pass.
And remember the years wasted with rose colored glass .

"The Rose"
I currently write a nostalgia column about growing up during the 1930's and 1940's for the weekly Humble Observer Newspaper and write and edit our little 4 page neighborhood newsletter. I just quit writing a weekly column for the Waller County News Citizen newspaper that I wrote for a year and a half. It was basically my history of Pine Island, Waller County, Texas (evolved from the family history) with a little local news thrown in as I heard it. I have written a lot of short stories, but haven't tried to publish any of them.
I currently have 4 assorted Web Sites beside this one, Genealogy, The Good Old Days, Pine Island Texas and Corky's Place (web page building). Recently I moved the "Web Page Building Page" to another site. I decided to use this space to display my writing hobby and try to encourage others to write for fun. It will also provide a place for all of us to display examples of our writing for others to enjoy.
