They had been holding him for three days now, the ransom note went out 2 days ago and still no reply to it, his hands were sore from the bindings around his wrists as he shook his head his face bloody from saying the same words over and over to them,

“They aren’t gonna come for m…”

Not even able to finish the sentence he was knocked from his upright position to the floor he didn’t even make a sound, he just watched the feet of the other two holding the guy back as the argued.

 

“He’s only messin with your head man, don’t worry they’ll pay up I’m tellin you this kid’s family gots money”

 

“I dunno, it’s been two days and still no word, I don’t like this one bit”

 

“Just listen to her man, they’ll pay up I’m sure of it, now lets get him back up and we need to clean him up before we take the picture”

 

Slowly they brought the young kid up his face was bloody and bruised from being beaten, but he didn’t care he just knew his parents weren’t gonna come since they were already dead, the one’s who took care of him now killed them and they would do the same to these, his next words were whispers and the three of them quieted down staring in disbelief as he said the words, “They read it…”

 

The man who hit him just shook his head “fuck this kid is crazy or something, he doesn’t even know what he’s talking about…”

 

The woman put her hand on his shoulder and smiled as if trying to comfort him, “Dun worry Hun he might have some sort of insight or something, maybe we’ll get there c…”

 

Just as she was gonna finish her words the phone rang, the three of them just looked at each other frowning.

 

“Did you give anyone our number?”

 

“No.”

 

“Tell me the fucking truth, cuz I didn’t put down any contact number…”

 

The phone rang again this time for the third time almost angrily not stopping, causing some discomfort to the kids assailants.

 

“Will you just answer the fucking phone already…”

 

“But who would have this number….”

 

“No one…that’s my point…”

 

They just looked at each other as the phone rung again and this time the kid spoke up “Answer the phone they want to tell you…they want to tell you….”

 

They just stared at the kid thinking he’s lost it but the man who slapped him earlier picked up the phone and answered it.

 

“H.. Hello?”

 

“………click”

 

“What Happened?”

 

“They hung up”

 

“I dun like this…. this doesn’t seem good”

 

The child smiled suddenly and looked up into their faces like they were new friends, “They’re here, they wanted to meet you, to tell you… to tell you ….in person…in person”

 

They just stared at each other and frowned picking up their guns,

 

“Just to be safe…”

 

A sound from the back like a box falling over could be heard then the distinct sound of an animal running off was heard, they sighed feeling like their chains were Jerked and the man walked over to the kid raising his hand and brought it down with all his force but stopped mid air with a look of surprise on his face, he paused and then looked up his eyes wide with an expression of surprise as he reached down clutching his bloodied chest coughing up blood his eyes still open as he tried to get away from what ever it was that held him. Barely managing to squeak out the words “Get…It off”

 

The other two cursed and picked up there guns firing in the area of their friend, they just went wide eyed seeing the bullets deflect off of something and go into the air then looked to each other, the woman just cursed.

 

“Fuck I knew something wasn’t right”

 

The child looked up and smiled sweetly holding his arms up in the air being freed by some unseen force as he cried out “mommie!!!”

 

The mans body was tossed to the side like garbage as he began to writhe and scream, his arm detaching from his body, and screamed even larger as a chunk of his flesh was torn out of his chest the bloodied teeth of some unseen creature right on top of him could now be seen, the two reacted and shot at the blood, the other man was picked off and pinned to the wall as the woman ducked and ran towards the door.

 

She didn’t make it far before one of them caught up with her, feeling a sharp pain in her ankle she fell to the ground and looked down seeing it barely attached to her foot, she cried out in pain and then looked up in terror as her assailant made itself visible to her, it was spidery almost like something out of a movie as it crouched low to her licking it’s teeth and then spoke to her “I shall let you live…. the others are examples to show your kind what it means to cross us…. you will soon understand what we are in due time….for now leave before I make the leg a much smaller limb.” 

 

The being smirked and turned leaping back upstairs as gunshots and screams were heard she closed her eyes and then screamed feeling blood splatter on her face.  Scrambling to her feet she left the place as quick as she could to a hospital where they admitted her as a Jane Doe, since she was unconscious at the door.

 

Out of the darkness

 

He paused a moment looking up as the child walked into his office, he looked to the left and right of him and waved some unseen force off as he looked down to the child. When he spoke his voice was dark almost having a hint of evil in it although his face showed nothing of the sort.

"Well....what do you have to report?"

The child smiled looking up to him and replied "The one's who captured me are dead, they took good care of them, but I suspect they have their own agenda as they let one of my captors go, she ended up in a hospital..."

The man nodded and then waved him out of the office as the child seemed to toddle off happily as the doors shut behind him. He stands and walks to the large window watching the child being escorted to the awaiting limo.

"Did you hear that...he knew that you let the girl go...why did you let her go in the first place?"

Suddenlly it steps forward making it's presense clear, the tall spiderlike being looks down to him making a face almost of amusement.

"A warning..."

"Oh? I'd think the presense of the others and that test yesterday would of been warning enough...."

The being shakes it's head and stares at him letting out a laugh.

"They were taught but no one would of been left alive to warn others not to toy with our kind...."

"Ah, your kind...exactly what are you, you never told me of that...in our whole time together you've always avoided the subject"

It pauses for a moment then shakes it's head, "As I've told you many times before, all you need to know is we've been around far longer then your race, we've just been in the shadows, if you wish you may call us the darkness...for lack of a better word.."

He shakes his head and frowns.

"What now...have you found him yet?"

"No, we have not found the subject..we'll keep searching...for now this meeting is over.."

The man frowns as the being leaves dissapearing making itself unseen to anything aside from those who can detect their minds. He sits back in the chair and goes into thought.
