| Spike is a Goffin Cockatoo. Back in the late 1980's, my dad had to deliver some furniture for his business. When he got to his destination, he spotted a cage outside, holding a white bird. This was a very strange place for a cage, especially since it was the middle of a very cold February. He inquired about the bird inside the house, and was told that it was a very obnoxious and temperamental creature, and he could have it if he wanted, but he would need their thick glove to handle it. So he came home, minus one piece of furniture, and plus one white bird, glove and all. It turned out, no glove was needed, as Spike was gentle. At the time, though, we didn't have the time or money to take care of her; my dad only took her in to get her away from those people. We gave her to a friend of the family. Recently we visited her, and she's doing fine. Maybe she'll end up with us again, now that we can afford to take good care of her. |
