***Nelly Kim Furtado was born on December 2, and raised in Victoria, British Columbia. When she was younger she did not socialize, and spent most of her time to herself. At the age of 4 she was singing in both Portuguese and English!
Then when she grew older she worked with her mother for 8 long years as a chambermaid. While working she would daydream about what her album would look and sound like. She wrote her first song when she was 12 years old.
When her CD came out on October 24, 2000, she said "I want to be that kind of artist that comes out with a completely different album each time, caz theres many different sides to me".
After high school she knew she wanted to persue in music so she headed to Toronto, Canada, where she stayed with some of her friends. She then came up with the band NELSTAR. She preformed at nightclubs where she caught the eye of (now her Co-producer) Jarvis Church.
He wanted her to persue in "pop" music, but she didn't know because she was into her "indee-trip-hop-thing" way of music, and "pop" was not her thing at the time.
She said "You know my mother worked so hard for us to be where we are today, and here I have this HUGE opportunity standing in front of my face, and im gonna say no... Forget that im gonna go for it! and so she did, with her now platinum album Whoa, Nelly, up for 4 Grammy awards (2002). She is one talented, and Wonderful person!!!! |
