"Holy Shit, I'm actually on Spirit!!!"  It's been a lot of time, sweat and work on both of our parts to get this.  I was on an adreneline high for about an hour ;-)
Such a good girl.  She's really wondering what I'm doing up on her back.  She was tense, but I think the tension will go away through repetition.  That's the way she's been in the past.  We're getting bigger and bigger "gives" as she trusts me more and more.
Mounting from the right was no different than mounting from the left.  She stood perfectly still.  *I* however, am much less dexterous mounting from the right.  More adreneline on my part.  Spirit was quiet--if she knew that I hate mounting on that side, she certianly didn't show it.
5-10-00 After such a good day yesterday, I didn't want to push Spirit too much.  I kept her in her pen, and we worked on grooming and picking up the front feet.  She did just fine, as I knew she would.  I did halter her and wrap the lead rope around the rail as an introduction to tying today, and Spirit didn't think anything of it.  *I* had a few tense moments when one of the more frustrating people at my barn (I just don't click with this woman at all) practically ran up to Spirit and started petting her face.  Spirit didn't even think about pulling back, but I did ask the woman to stop when her hands went up to Spirit's ears.  She's barely comfortable with my hands up there, and I really did *not* want to give her an excuse to back up from the rail.  I think the woman was a little pissed, but I really don't understand why she thinks Spirit can be trusted like any other horse at the barn.  <sigh>  I'm just glad Spirit reacted the way she did, instead of throwing a fit.
