| 12-17-01 Well, I finally got through a whole semester back at college. This is certianly the best I've ever done at school. I'm glad that I've got a few weeks off before starting new classes, though. :) Haven't had much time for Spirit, nor have I had time to scan the photos I got back of Jackie leading me around on her. Soon, I promise. Christa has been turning Spirit out for me in the big pasture three days a week, and Christa hasn't had any problems handling her at all. Christa was pretty happy a couple days ago when Spirit walked right up to her when it was time to go out. :) It's pretty much just been the basics for Ms Mare lately--getting her feet trimmed and getting wormed. I longe her when I can in the arena, and she's done fine with that. I'd really like to make some significant progress with her under saddle training over christmas break...my roommate, Chad, said he would help, so hopefully I'll actually be able to get something done with the big girl. Spirit knows Chad and Chad's pretty horse-savvy. I hope it goes well. Although I know Spirit would never hurt me or someone else on purpose, she is big and she does get scared. We'll just have to make sure to take it slow and make it very clear what's expected of her. I'd still really like to get her at least walk/trot broke before the end of the year, but 2002 is coming up AWEFULLY fast. Not sure if it'll happen. Ah well. Pictures soon! 6-22-04 Can you believe it's 2004? Where has the time gone? I've had lots of real life shit get in the way of the horses in the past year or so. There have been a few changes. Springer, my old fabulous gelding, was euthanised November 2003. His coffin bone problems were bothering him too much, and it was time. Good-bye old man. You're very, very missed. Shaman, my cute little pony, was sold. But is now back, sort of. Spirit's happy to have her friend living with her again. I bought a couple OTTB mares. They're neat. More on them later, maybe. Spirit is still just hanging out. Doubt I'll ever ride her, but I might breed her. Maybe to a nice quite QH for a trail horse. A few people have expressed interest in leasing her to breed, so maybe that'll happen. Who knows. As it is now, Spirit is just a pet. She gets groomed, her feet done, all vaccines, etc, but I don't really ask anything of her. She's a good girl and she can stay with me until she dies. I figure she's earned that--not only for the rough life she lived, but for everything she's taught me about horses and communication. |
